This self-taught designer from Shillong believes in keeping it simple. Someone who is deeply fond of experimentation, Daniel labels his collection as ‘Daniel Syiem’. A joint venture between Daniel and Janessaline Mary Pyngrope, ‘Daniel Syiem’ is entirely about the beautiful North East India.

Daniel showcased his debut collection at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013. The designer basically deals with the local fabric, ‘Ryndia’, a 100% organic fabric woven by Meghalayan women.

He and Janessaline together found ‘Weaves’, an institution to safeguard and promote hand woven fabric of Meghalaya. Winner of the Best North-East designer award, 2000, Daniel is known for his simplicity and deep rootedness that his expresses through his collection.

At the fashion week, he displayed an eclectic blend of dark and deep colours like off whites, blues, and mustards. A combination of drapes, cheques and patterns, his collection also included a reflection of North Eastern women’s native attire, ‘MekhalaChadar’, the calming white saree with a golden border.

Daniel also participated in the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013 in the Emerging category. With all his enthusiasm and belief in his culture, the designer aims at promoting the rich heritage of North Eastern India through his creations.
