Shyamal and Bhumika Show at India Couture Week 2018
    July 31, 2018

Shyamal and Bhumika presented Muse of Mirrors at the India Couture Week 2018 stage, featuring the designer duo’s signature avant-garde and exquisite embroideries celebrates their princess muse, using tiers of eco-friendly matka silks, raw silks, fine crepes, and georgettes; with diaphanous tulle and organza to dress her for flamboyant operas and picturesque weddings.

Fragile embroidery in age-old techniques of aari, zardozi and pitta entwine into elaborate drapes and structured sleeves with tumbling vines, floating bouquet, delicate petals and vintage crests adding fragility to eccentric Versallian costumes. Vintage rose gold zari threads and silk threads are intricately embroidered into exaggerated floral and scalloped hems, over layered with sequins, giving a painterly effect and softness to the romance-inspired collection by Shyamal and Bhumika, that makes costume couture relevant to their young muse.

A mélange of unique vintage colors of English rose pink, ochre, moon grey, dusty mint, muted ivory, champagne complimented with vivid shades of midnight blue, emerald green and crimson reds was a sight to behold.

The collection is inspired by the regality and romance of ancient palaces, with their ornate archways, painted ceilings, silk upholstery and baroque carpets. Dreams fashioned by the royals; envisaged by Shyamal and Bhumika for their muse who loves to paint while exotic rubies dangle from her charmed wrist- a woman that embodies the complexities of contemporary Indian romanticism.
