Payal Khandwala at Lakme fashion week S/R 2016
    April 4, 2016

Summer is here and what better than the pool side to showcase a beautiful Spring Summer’16 collection by designer Payal Khandwala . The geometric inspired range showcased the simplicity and complexity of shapes with an evocative play of negative and positive spaces. The use of minimal flat shapes transformed into a three dimensional forms. Repeats, lines, symmetry, asymmetry and angles echoed across the outfits, creating interesting silhouettes with hand-woven artisanal details and tailoring focused on circles, triangles and the often forgotten parallelogram.

The models looked fierce wearing ensembles in a palette of whites accentuated by shades of coral, fuschia, citrine, chartreuse, blush, and metallic vintage gold and silver adding a dash of playfulness and brilliance to the ramp. Textures ranging from cottons, linens, permpleating, lightweight handwoven silks and neoprene to silk organzas and handcrafted brocades were seen in full grandeur.

An array of handcrafted leather accessories by the designer’s line Tachi was a bold new line of minimal brass and leather jewelry including rings, necklaces, earrings, nosepins, bangles and anklets were designed to complement this collection.

The motifs hand-woven in metallic gold and silver thread in geometric patterns by artisans from Varanasi and Bengal gave the collection a traditional yet contemporary appeal, creating versatile outfits.
