It is official: Liza Golden is the new face of Lakme. The 5’9.5” beauty has signed an exclusive contract with the beauty giant and the campaign will be out shortly.

The doe eyed beauty arrived on Indian shores some months back and has taken the Indian Modeling scene by storm. Striking good looks, a stunning figure and a CV which boasts of assignments for Kingfisher, Vogue and Cosmopolitan amongst others, Liza is sure to go a long long way. Here Fashionfad indulges in an exclusive chat with the stunner.

So, tell us Liza…How did you get chosen as the new face of Lakme? What was the selection procedure etc?
Like any job there is a casting for it, but for Lakme I walked in the door and there were about like 12 women and I was shocked because I’ve never met so many people for a casting before…I sat down, they flipped through my book, looked at me side to side, up and down, eyes opened, eyes closed, literally, then I proceeded to tell them a bit about my interests, and we got into reading. I told them how much I love vampire books/vampires in general…not sure if that had any effect on their decision (giggles)

What was your reaction when you were chosen?
I felt pretty great because I really didn’t expect it at all; it was a surprise to me. A nice one at that!

You belong to USA, how did you decide to come to Indian shores for modeling?
My agents Mark and Gunita (Of Anima Creative Management) were shooting with me for an Indian magazine while I was working in Australia for a few months, and they scouted me and told me that I should give India a try, and I took their advice :)

How do you feel about India – its culture, the people etc?
At first it’s a huge shock but then when a few months go by and you are nearing the end of your time in India suddenly you don’t want to leave, and you realize you’ve grown to love the chaos and mayhem…then I extend my ticket a few more months (giggles) :)

Tell us something about your early life. Your family, education, place you were brought up etc.
I have quite a small family in New Jersey that I can count on one hand. I finished all my schooling well to high school, and then I was studying to become a nurse at a college in New Jersey but then I was scouted to be a model and started traveling and working so much and I could not keep up with school. And since I pay for my schooling I decided that I would like to hold back on it for another few years and travel the world and focus on modeling since I can only give my all in one thing at a time.

Share a special childhood memory with us…
My favorite childhood memories had to be all my amphibian searching; I was a tomboy as a kid, always waking up at the crack of dawn with my younger boy cousin and searching for salamanders under rocks, and then keeping  them in our bug/creature containers… We were big about catching frogs too. As a matter of fact, to this day I love to catch them :) I was always down and dirty as a kid. I miss those days…

Which makeup and beauty product brands do you use yourself?
I’m a big mascara girl myself, and I love a nice lip color and Lakme has the nicest of shades, their eye shadows are superb and they work awesomely well for my going out nights :)

What has been your favourite modeling moment?
My favorite moment? Well it’d have to be moments because for me modeling is all about traveling that’s why I love it. I get to travel the world and see everything and learn about so many different cultures and lifestyles and that’s always been what I’ve wanted!

What do you love about life as a model?
Well, we do tend to get things for free. Clothes, shoes, makeup…that’s a great little perk.

What are your future plans and interests?
I guess a lot of things. I’m so young and I have a lot of countries to travel to, my next big step would be Europe, I’ve never REALLY gone (was there only for 2 weeks). I’m also quite the chef at home and would love to take up culinary school down the road, I also love to write and writing a memoir has always been a thought…lets see how much of that I get done!! (giggles) Europe first :)

One thing you would like to change in your life?
That while I’m traveling I can take my doggy Rocky with me. I miss him so dearly but I don’t think he’d do too well with the street dogs here, and there are way too many distractions… (laughs)

What about your relationship status?
I’m taken… (winks)

And who is the lucky man?
Lucky man? He might beg to differ with the lucky part, but he’ll remain unknown for now (giggles).
