Forget the various award ceremonies that are held round the year, if you really want to see which stars earn their fashion brownies, it’s definitely at the Cannes where they display their true colours. Cannes is not just one evening for which the A-list have to choose their outfits, make-up and hair, it’s an entire week of meticulously styled high profile premieres, parties and yacht-hopping.  This year was one of the best shows as a legion of perfectly styled celebs from around the world turned out in their finery on the Red Carpet. But how can a gala event be complete without fashion flops? Fashionfad brings you the lowdown on the good, bad and the ugly appearances by celebrities on the Cannes Red Carpet.

THE GOOD: We hail these divas!

SONAM KAPOOR: Her arrival on the Cannes Red Carpet was much too anticipated by the fashion gurus and Indian paparazzi. And Sonam, the diva that she is, didn’t disappoint us either. Donning a very elegant yet edgy Jean Paul Gaultier gown, Sonam floored us with her immaculate style. Her other appearances at the various events/parties at Cannes were a perfect blend of vintage yet modern.

AISHWARYA RAI: After being the face of India at the Cannes Film Festival for years in a row, Ash finally got it right this year. Her selection of outfits was fit for an international event of this stature. How pretty did she look in the Elie Saab and the Armani Prive gowns… though the make-up and the hair could have been a li’l better, but hey who’s complaining, she looked lovely nonetheless.

JANE FONDA: The rockstar that she is came across in the way she dressed up for Cannes this year. At 73, she was quite a wow at the festival and could easily give the 20-somethings a run for their money.

KATE BECKINSALE: Kate turned up the glam quotient many notches higher at the Festival this year. Throughout the festival, she didn’t put a foot wrong, stepping out in not just one but four knock-out gowns. Not to forget the hair and the make-up was immaculate.

UMA THURMAN: Uma knocked every look at the festival be it elegant gowns or body hugging dresses. She sashayed down the Red Carpet like a pro. If we have to pick a favourite, it has to be the white feather silk Versace gown.

THE BAD AND THE UGLY: Looks we don’t care much about and some sights we wished our eyes never saw!

CLAUDIA SCHIFFER, CORINE ROITFELD & KIRSTEN DUNST:  Ladies, just one thing: What were you thinking? Sure this festival was in France, but that doesn’t mean you end up on the Red Carpet in see-through lace that looked more like French underwear! Huh… we can’t pick which one was worst among the three. All these outfits spell disaster with a capital ‘D’.

AND THE REST OF THE FASHION FLOPS…
It’s quite hard for us to pick a winner for Cannes. These celebrities, despite having the world’s top designers and best stylists at their disposal, just couldn’t make good use of the opportunity.

ADRIANA KAREMBEU: Slovac actress and model Adriana was a horror in that fairy godmother pink lace gown… Sigh!

SALMA HAYEK: It’s depressing to see such a pretty lady in that ugly piece of leather. And that rose petal shrug was definitely the ‘cherry’ on top of that bitter cake! Though she made up for it later, we’d urge Salma not to put us through something like this again.

COUTNEY LOVE: Courtney Love grabbed eyeballs for all the wrong reasons. Be it the rather inappropriate Givenchy dress or the raggedy satin dress, she was every stylists’ nightmare at the festival.
