One of the ace Sri Lankan fashion designers, Yasisurie Kiribandara recently enthralled the Colombia Fashion Week with her two collections namely Resort Wear and Consciousness.

580 1Of the two, the former drew its inspirations from the beautiful and mysterious depths of the oceans. Keeping the colour palette in accordance with the inspiration, the designer showcased multiple shades of hues, aquamarines, classic blues, denim blues and glimpses of stark black. The fabrics were natural and innate including handcrafted denim and cotton replete of variegated surface textures. Enamoured by the textures on the depths of the oceanic floor, the designer interpreted them into a texture based denim collection. With a creative blend of free flowing yet minutely structured silhouettes, the collection prompts an exploration of artistry and creativity, thereby pushing the boundaries of simplistic designs to unprecedented extremes of the mystified sea.

580However, the latter collection was the one with a more spiritual influence. Using sacred geometrical symbols as a part of embellishments and embroideries, the designer introduced an all new twist to western styling. Besides, the scheme of colours that she used for this collection was yet again sober and subtle, including shades of white for purity, black to create contrast in our consciousness and purple to indicate spirituality or crown chakra. With the elegant satin finishing given to each garment, Yasisurie crossed that extra edge that is required for one to outshine in the crowd. Also, the wearability of the collection was very well managed, wherein an exotic evening wear and a casual day wear for a hangout with friends, could be easily spotted.

Speaking of the geometrical patterns and symbols which were spiritual and ancient, the designer came full circle with these add-ons, in order to elevate the inner consciousness of the wearer.
