Though it’s the time of gravity defying heels but back in 1970s it was the platform heels which strutted down the wardrobes of fashionistas, along with eye brows raised about the same old form versus function debate.

The revelation about 70s fashion at its sadist best comes through an account of a documentary sizing up the perils of platform heels yet the penchants and reasons galore to love them. The documentary shows a medical expert warning about the bent position of knees which occurs due to wearing high heels, and consequently, strained, swollen knees and arthritis which could eventually result in surgery.

In 1999 the British Standards Institution (BSI) gave a health warning against platform heels after a Japanese woman died after falling off her shoes and fracturing her skull. But unaffectedly, women find them irresistible stating reasons varying from novelty (which a platform heel was back in 70s) to functionality (makes one look taller) to mere charm of such shoes.
