A multi-talented entrepreneur and designer, Harshita is an all-rounder who believes in the revival of the handloom tradition of woven art. Having completed her graduation from Goldsmith University of London in Media Communications and film, she recently opened her own concept-designer store in Pune titled ‘Mariah’.

Her label, ‘Harshita Chatterjee Deshpande’ comprises of collections from classical Indian weavers exclusively designed for contemporary Indian women. She participated in the Lakme Fashion Week winter/Festive 2013 and had bollywood actresses like Sonali Bendre and Isha Koppikar walking the runway for her. The collection ‘Ragas of the Charioteer’ was based on the concept of reviving the ‘Paithani’.

The vibrant Bengali beauty also loves travelling across India, employs her experiences by taking them as an inspiration, and searches for old traditional weavers and textile craftsmen. In her past years, she has worked as a TV journalist in Mumbai and was also engaged in film direction and script writing.

Previously, she organised a three-day performing art festival called ‘Gulaal’ through her organization, ‘Indian Rhythm and Art Association’. Harshita now plans to set up a theatre and art centre in Pune.
