The sparkle of Swarovski Elements seldom goes unnoticed whether it’s New York or India. The glittering jewels magically render that glamour which every designer worth their salt covets.

And that very magic awed all and sundry at the recently concluded New York Fashion Week where a host of designers dabbled with Swarovski Elements. Celebrated designers like Altuzarra, Rodarte, Creatures of the Wind, Juan Carlos Obando and newcomer Wes Gordon channeled the Swarovski glitz in their runway designs.

Juan Carlos Obando’s collection showcased a curiosity of traditional coastal Spanish myths and legends using thousands of miniature Swarovski Elements to give key looks the aura and glowing dimension of the romantic and delicate texture of flower petals and the Faunas’ mystical aura.

In contrast, Creatures of the Wind referenced sixties modernism and integrated Swarovski Elements in a purely decorative manner to create geometric, linear structures and repeat patterned shapes while Rodarte used these jewels to create prismatic effects and shifts in color and light. The medieval inspired collection featured shiny and textured fabrics, fringed leather, beading and embroidery.

For his Spring Summer 2013 collection, Altuzarra was inspired by adornment and jewelry from different time periods and cultures – turned into reality using Swarovski. Ironically, emerging talent Wes Gordon morphed the dark heroine he created for his fall collection into the High Priestess for his latest collection featuring hand-drawn swan prints, delicate knits and embroideries embellished with Swarovski Elements.
