The American fashion house Calvin Klein marks its first attempt at breaking stereotypes by tapping the US size-10 model Myla Dalbesio, along with Jourdan Dunn and Lara Stone for its underwear ad campaign. Technically speaking, the 27 year old Myla is a plus-size model, more-so as compared to the brand’s previous models.

Where on hand, the project is by far Myla’s most high-profile gig till date; the campaign however, on the other hand was met by some unwelcoming remarks on the social media. Since the tag-line for the campaign states ‘Perfectly Fit’, twitterati was flooded with comments like ‘Plus-size??? I must be extra plus plus’ and ‘Genuine WTF Moment’ amongst the hilarious others.

None the less, in the words of Myla, Calvin Klein displayed no distinction and released her in the campaign with everyone else. Describing herself as ‘in-between’ in terms of size, her statistics are 5ft11in and a US size 10 (approximately a UK size 14). However, she is indeed a plus-size model where agencies specialising in plus-size models begin at a UK size 12 for women.

Well, this is yet another instance where the mainstream fashion world has co-opted a plus-size concept thereby escaping clichés and such differentiating conventions, where previously Vogue Paris carried a plus-size edition featuring models such as Crystal Renn, Kate Dillon and Robyn Lawley.

Surprisingly, the sad fact is that such questions to size have come from public. How then, does one expect the mainstream fashion world to be unbiased and unprejudiced!
