Gabrielle Chanel was the first fashion designer to create a line of high jewellery. In 1932 she broke all the codes and rules of this incredibly closed world with her “Bijoux de diamants” collection and skilfully showed how they could be fabulous precious ornaments. True to this philosophy, CHANEL jewellery today pushes open the doors of a fashion boutique for a preview presentation of pieces from the “Comète Rock” collection.

For the occasion, the CHANEL boutique on the Faubourg Saint-Honoré is transforming its ground floor into a veritable ephemeral jewellery box. This space with its satiny pink lacquered walls and floor carpeted in feather designs accommodates a deconstructed bird cage: here and there parts of this cage set the scene within a world of infinite femininity. This highly original installation sits amidst cascades of white leather camellias, floating mannequins and champagne-hued ceruse-finished wood furniture.

To illustrate the avant-garde concepts of Gabrielle Chanel’s jewellery, parts of the female body have been sculpted from plaster into very feminine gestures and attitudes: a long necklace is draped over a nude back, a mouth bites into a brooch… The pieces on show are taken from themes so dear to the House: the feather, the quilting, the lion, the camellia and of course, the comet.
