Architect Zaha Hadid has completed a one of the most beautiful museum for renowned climber Reinhold Messner at the top of Alpine peak Mount Kronplatz.

Located 2,275 metres above sea level in the heart of the popular Kronplatz ski resort in South Tyrol, Italy, the Messner Mountain Museum Corones is the ultimate installment in a series of 6 mountain top museums constructed by Messner.

Using Concrete, Zaha Hadid gave the appearance of rock and ice shards to the museum and he also chose glass-reinforced fibre concrete to give the building’s exterior a pale grey tone. To support the structure from the pressure of the surrounding earth, the walls of the museum are made between 40 and 50 centimetres thick and the roof with thicknesses of up to 70 centimetres.

The building featuring underground galleries and a viewing platform cantilevered over a valley will exhibit objects, images and tools that tell the story of Messner’s life as a mountaineer. Galleries over three floors are connected by staircases that the Zaha describes as being “like waterfalls in a mountain stream”.
