Young British menswear designer Grace Wales Bonner is one lucky designer who has rapidly garnered so much of praise and support and has been chosen as the subject of London’s famous V & A Museum’s Fashion in Motion which will be held on 10th April.
The event will present four presentations highlighting Wales Bonner’s collections to date, which take inspiration from black visual culture and mix couture techniques with African craft.
The young designer, born in south-east London to an English mother and Jamaican father, explores cross-cultural hybridity, masculinity and notions of European and African luxury fashion in her work, referencing black representation in 19th Century art, the Harlen Renaissance of the 1920’s and black style from the ’70s.
