The Red Sole SagaThe red sole controversy seems like hitting the new grounds with a French court passing a ruling in favour of Spanish brand Zara which Christian Louboutin had sued for imitating its open-toed red sole design.

The designer known for his iconic heels which celebrities around the world dote on quipped caustically after losing the case, “Much of the discussion regarding the French court decision either implies or states that through this ruling we have lost our rights to our world famous Red Sole Trademark. We would like to clarify that what has been disputed and canceled is only one French registration of said Red sole Trademark.”

It was in 2008 when Louboutin registered the trademark, claiming the exclusive rights to make the shoes with red sole. And soon, it sued Zara for trademark infringement. After battling for couple of years, the recent ruling makes Louboutin utter, “Christian Louboutin continues to own valid and enforceable trademark rights in its Red Sole Trademark, including in France itself as well as throughout the world. A number of court decisions have recognized the strong association between Christian Louboutin and the Red Sole Trademark, including in France. Christian Louboutin will continue to protect and enforce its rights to its Red Sole Trademark which has been its iconic signature for the past 20 years.”
