India’s first ever tattoo convention, The India Ink Tattoo Convention 2011 is slotted to be held on April 9th and 10th, 2011 at world Trade Centre, Mumbai.

A first-of-its-kind in the country, this convention will see a vast range of renowned tattoo artists like Deep Tattoo Goa, Mumbai Ink, Inkology, Eternal Expressions, Inks and Needles, Tat2Me and many more. It will include an interactive talk session with Mr Johnny (Judge), a workshop with renowned tattoo artist Mr.Nick Sharma giving people all the insights into Black and Grey tattooing. Panelists of the event include Abhinandan Basu (renowned tattoo artist), Chirag Jhala (Inks and needles Tattoo Studio), Al Alva (Al’s Tattoo Studio) and Ben Irani.

Organized with the objective of giving voice to this silent majority, this two-day expo will host a bouquet of avant-garde events and eclectic performances by prominent artists, like music concert with rock bands and dance performances, culminating in a grand fashion show. Artist PackoBaing will be a star attraction in the visual arts category. With trance or any other music playing in the background, the artist goes with the flow to paint on canvas and that art is then used as a tattoo design on people. Stalls will showcase happening, cool, funky, chic stuff throughout the day at the venue.

This sort of a convention is a reflection of a newly emerging demographic represented by India’s urban youth who comprise a vast throbbing subculture with a unique a distinctive identity. It will not only be an important site for professionals to come together to share ideas and skills, but it will also be an excellent opportunity to open up new horizons.
