In an attempt to prevent the much practiced custom of child marriage in India, NGO ‘Child Survival India’ propagates and promotes a ‘white bindi’ as a symbol of protest against child marriage. Celebrated designer Tarun Tahiliani grants his generous support for the cause by gracing each of his models with a ‘white bindi’, in his show during the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014.

Traditionally, a bindi is believed to protect a woman from demons. Representing the same, Child Survival India’s ‘No Child Bride’ initiative aims at raising and supporting the cause by the simple use of a ‘white bindi’. However, Tarun’s support and encouragement served as an awareness campaign, invoking a great amount of curiosity and empathy among the media and the onlookers of the Lakme Fashion Week.

Forthwith, the ‘white bindi’ gradually advances towards becoming a trend with the NGO’s on ground activations at the Kala Godha Festival, Mumbai and Cyber Hub, Gurgaon. With an equal amount of support and enthusiasm, the country’s youth support the cause as one witnesses the ‘white bindi trend’ becoming the latest style statement among the students in the leading colleges of Delhi and Mumbai.
