With a total of 80 lots, the auction features exceptional works by modern masters such as K. K Hebbar, S.H. Raza, F.N. Souza, M.F. Husain, Akbar Padamsee and Arpita Singh, along with works by prominent contemporary artists like Anju Dodiya, Jitish Kallat, Rashid Rana and Praneet Soi.

With a total low estimate of Rs 17 Crores(USD 3.5 million) andSaffronart Spring Auction a high estimate of Rs 23 crores (USD 4.8 million), auction will take place online on March 28 – 29 2012, while the previews will be held in Mumbai, Delhi & New York.

One of the significant modern works featured in this auction is S.H. Raza’s 1979 canvas, titled ‘Paysage’ and M.F. Husain’s 1970 painting of horses, featured on the cover of the catalogue. One of the most powerful icons in Husain’s expansive body of work, the horse is a symbol of fervour, strength and free-will. Estimated at Rs. 1.5 to 2.5 crore (USD 312,500 – 520,835). Akbar Padamsee’s untitled 1973 landscape is another highlight of this auction while Anju Dodiya’s 2004 painting on mattress titled Coronation II. This three-dimensional work offers viewers a daunting self-portrait of the artist wearing a loosely wrapped turban and high-collared dress.
