The 1987 auction of the Windsor’s jewel – the highest scored public display of private jewellery range till date has been left behind by a recently held auction at the Christie’s showcasing Elizabeth Taylor’s world famous jewels.

Within the first four hours ofthe display, her accessories broke the record which was last set by the Duchess of Windsor auction apprehended in Geneva. While the earlier auction mounted above $50 million, thistime Taylor’s jewels easily grossed £74million ($116 million) in a night itself.

Around 80 adorned pieces from the diva’s accumulation were showcased that evening which included her famous bracelets and the lovely 33.29 carat Asscher-cut ring which was gifted to Taylor by her husband, co-star Richard Burton. This diamond ring which came to Taylor in the year 1968 became the highlight of the show mounting up to$8,818,500.


The actress’s Indian jewels which included her Taj Mahal ruby and gold chain collected $8,818,500. The range expected not more than $500,000. This transaction has created a bench mark in the history of Indian jewels. The brooch of Prince of Wales gained$1,314,500. Even the tiara of the evergreen beauty raised $4.2 million. This tiara was a gift to her by her third husband Mike Todd in the year 1957.


The actress extensive craze for jewels which made her compile a whole lot of endearing pieces is a known affair. Even she opined in her book regarding her love for her jewels and clearly cited that they should be auctioned once she leaves the world but the person attaining them must take care of her possessions as she did.
