No sooner she joined as Union Cabinet Minister of Textiles, On 1 August, Smriti Z Irani kicked off a “Selfie with handlooms” campaign on social media.
Promoted with the hashtag on fb and twitter, she initiated the campaign #IWearHandloom, by sharing a picture of herself sporting a blue handwoven sari. Shedding light into the idea, she wrote, “Indian handlooms symbolise India’s heritage & culture. Wear it to carry on our rich tradition and support 43 lakh weavers & their families”. She further tagged her fellow Ministers.
FDCI President, Sunil Sethi soon extended his support by sharing his handloom for work and occasions which was later followed by fashion fraternity.
