Ashish N Soni has always been one of the hottest tickets in menswear and a beloved of the fashion pack. This season the designer presents a collection that is surprisingly playful and full of fantasy. The idea being to allow men to enjoy and live out their creative potential by adding a portion of humor and self-irony. The look remains that of an infinitely chic man who’s not deterred by a retro-sport style mood, inspired by 70’s.

The Mood is almost Carefree, contained only with an element of retro-smartness. Personal expression is the key here wherein there is an intense contrasting of fabrics in designs that are executed in clear and well-defined Ashish N Soni shapes. A certain form of minimalism and modernity is maintained in the silhouette via shapes that are fairly straight, clean silhouettes defined by small anatomically-shaped pieces or fitted pants.

Fabrics are light, matte and smooth. Well-placed prints, checks, clean qualities of Madras plaid squares, gabardine, denim and poplin for fresh cotton hands are the essential dose of preppy fabrics perfect for the Spring /Summer’11 collection. Perfectly lightweight and effortlessly chic, cotton madras fabrics feel quintessentially summery, as befits their Indian roots. In shirts, shorts – and even jackets and pants, some of the madras fabrics are crisply plaid, while others are featuring colours that softly bleed into one another.
