It’s this fire in belly, conviction in head and loads of dreams in eyes of this Kolkatta girl, to optimize her creative powers while sustaining her love for everything eccentric and bizarre which made Nupur Kanoi to pick up the threads and weave her heart out.The big green walls of accountancy couldn’t charter her flight, and she broke free to relish the fruits of her dreams and went on to pursue a course from National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkatta dropping out of her CA program. The three creative years at the institute sort of laid the foundation of the castles she had to build in the coming years.
Soon after her graduation, Nupur started her career in fashion as a stylist and fashion writer for Verve magazine in Mumbai. The two-year stint with the publication made her embrace the niceties of the fashion world where talent goes hand in hand with innovation and business skills. Later, she apprenticed with veteran designer Anamika Khanna, and time ended up learning the art of creating palpable dreams from a scratch. Now, loaded with the idea of the different aspects of fashion world, she launched her eponymous women’s wear label ‘Nupur Kanoi’ in Kolkatta in 2006.
Over the time, Nupur created her distinct style reflecting a rich use of global craft and color merging with embroideries and surface texturing, always with a bit of artistic disarray. The discordant harmony giving a natural, beautiful and handmade feel to her collection turned out to be her forte which she creates by the use of contemporary and traditional imbued with a sense of fun completing the look.
Currently, the designer retails her diffusion and ethnic wear lines in prominent stores across India such as Aza, Ogaan, Samsaara, Evoluzione and Elahe.
