The Delhi based designer, Nandita Basu is a name synonymous with high fashion, innovativeness and distinctness. The not-so-ordinary designs depicting an unsaid story every season bought her a venerable position in Indian fashion fraternity.

Nandita studied Fashion design and Clothing technology at NIFT and then went on to Central Saint Martins, London before returning to India to set up her own design studio. Nandita has had showcased her extraordinaire work extensively in Mumbai, New Delhi at the India Fashion Week, at the ethical Fashion show in Paris, at the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, the Sri Lanka fashion week and at the United Nations in New York. Nandita along with Abhishek Gupta launched a streetwear line called Fightercock at the India fashion Week in 2006.

It’s Nandita’s design aesthetic which is minimal and edgy at the same time that brought her fame and recognition. She likes using traditional art and craft techniques but in a contemporary manner. Her clothes have a classic appeal yet are quirky. She feels fit, finish and form as well as attention to detail and construction, are all important elements of designer clothing.

She likes playing with off-beat pattern cutting techniques. She works a lot with surface textures. She also uses certain trademark techniques such as leather strips embroidery and 3D cutout textures that are unique to her work.

Nandita has many awards to her name. In January 2004, she was honoured with the Breakthrough Designer of the Year award at the Kingfisher Fashion Awards, Goa. In December 2004 she bagged Society Young Achiever’s Award for Fashion. And, September of 2007 saw her being awarded with the MTV Breakthrough Designer of the Year Award.

Nandita currently retails from her signature store at the Crescent at the Qutab in New Delhi and through other designer stores in different cities. She has also sold her collection in London, Kuwait, Hongkong and New York.
