The much awaited Lakme Fashion Week Summer/ Resort 2011 begins tonight with Anamika Khanna’s show. What will be showcased on the ramp over the fashion packed five days and the kick off show this evening, are a result of the last minute brain storming and quick fixes during the LFW fittings. The designers may have worked hard on creating the garments over the last few months, but the way they will get presented on the ramp in front of the audience, will make all the difference.
Celebrity fashion stylist Aki Narula and Gautam Kalra along with show directors Anu Ahuja, Lubna Adams and Marc Robinson worked out the line up of models and their ensembles that they would carry off with élan. At times the attires were also swapped among the models if they did not look as great as they were expected to, while allotting them. Designers were suggested to take notes of minor changes and alterations that would help to bring out the best in every outfit. So adding a tuck there or a dart here, taking off a frill if required, accessorising with a belt or a bolero jacket, were some of the smart options keeping in mind the little time on hand to make things perfect prior to the show.
Make-up artists Kapil Bhalla, Clint Fernandes and their team members were around to visualise the make-up that would complement the attires. Though it was the ideation stage, things had to get finalized fast. While some of them felt ‘neon pouty lips’ would look very chic and international, others were apprehensive about an ‘over kill’ as the garments were too bright in themselves.
The footwear sizes were a problem most of the time as models found some of the styles from Tresmode too big or too small for their feet. They too were being tagged to get replaced before the final rehearsals.
The lighting and music of every show was getting discussed and finalized for a fool proof run. Though the budgets required a bit of alteration too, in order to keep in sync with the vivid imagination, designers are all set to rock their show time and would not settle for anything less than the best!
