Marc Jacobs’ closing show of New York Fashion Week fall18, perpetually has drama and controversy. This time was no different, as animal rights protesters massed outside the venue shouting: “Marc Jacobs, shame on you,” “Only assholes wear fur!” A PETA-branded placard read: “Wear your own skin.”

Done in all-black, the models looked like stern, furtive cardinals, as the show notes read as “huge flourishes, gestures, broad strokes and silhouettes expressed in rich and gorgeous fabrics…”

If the jackets were huge, the trousers were leather and wide. And everywhere on waists there were gigantic flower pins, reimagined as the crowning glory of a belt. One model forwent trousers for tights, and at the end there were some dresses with a flowery explosion of ruffles down the side.

Sharp hats sat atop some models’ heads, while others had their hair dyed to match their ensemble.A few came down the runway with a long fur stole hanging from their arms, or with an arm raised allowing a handbag to hang from the crook of the elbow.

Sweaters were bedazzled; shoes were embellished, striped or animal print; gowns came complete with balloon sleeves or bow trains.
