Think Disco. Think Glam. Think the Soul and Spirit of Hippy gone Couture. JAWANI JAANEMAN is an exuberant Ode to Retro Chic, an era reloaded and repackaged in a fabulous, futuristic avatar. A collection that is decidedly current, but carries within its many layers, a heady nostalgia for the 70s and 80s, says the the designer duo.
With the core inspiration for this collection, being emotion, particularly the feelings,the emphasis is on breezy, easy, shimmer and slink and grown up glamour for the eternally young at heart. The mood and ethos of this collection has its provenance in their own personal history and a single garment, the all gold cat suit designed for Parveen Babi in Namak Halal for the iconic song by the same name as the show title. Abu Jani was working with Xerxes Bhatena, the costume designer who created this ensemble at the time.
Jawani Jaaneman is a smorgasbord of moods that come alive in the form of Fashion. The duo have also chosen this collection to debut new silhouettes which include gowns, capes and kaftans, each created for the global Diva. Chikan in a shiny new avatar embedded with Swarovski crystals and sequins.
The signature colours are whites and neutrals from off whites, creams, beiges and ash grey, accented with bursts of pop colours and a generous serving of bling in the form of sequins, gold and silver embroidery and crystals. The fabrics are chosen for their sensuousness and include Duchess Satin, Organza and Net.
