In the league of India born world acclaimed designers, Waris Ahluwalia is a venerable name known for his exquisite jewellery. The designer-cum-actor Waris loves to act and one can easily recognize this face performing with the likes of Owen Wilson and Dustin Hoffman.

Waris was born in India and immigrated with his family to the States at the age of five, and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. An innate artist who loves to indulge in art, Waris’s penchant for design took him to the heights where very few Indians have reached. And it was a mere happenstance which laid the foundation of his eponymous label, House of Waris. It all germinated when the owners of one of the world’s most lavish boutiques in New York, Maxfield’s noticed his elaborate rings as he happened to visit the store and placed an order to have similar ones delivered within a week. The rings sold out soon and he came up with ‘House of Waris’. In a matter of months, Waris opened his workshops in New York and Rome, and later in India, where most of his jewellery is made now.

Balancing his time between designing and acting, Waris loves to travel and keep exploring new places while satisfying the curious artist in himself. He frequently travels to India, Japan, Rome and United States in pursuit of quality, inspiration while searching the skilled craftsmen. Determined to preserve the ways of the old craftsmen and along the way setting new standards for goods that are touched by hand, Waris gives luxury a new light.

Waris keeps collaborating with the designers to unveil the best and one such name is Benjamin Cho, whose finely crafted dresses along with his jewellery presented an awe generating collection. House of Waris was a nominee for 2009 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. In 2010 Waris was one of the inaugural tenants of the fashion incubator program by the CFDA. Besides he has also appeared in movies like The Life Aquatic, Inside Man and The Darjeeling Limited.

Currently, Waris retails from Maxfield in Los Angeles, Barneys in New York, The Webster in Miami and Colette in Paris amongst other.
