SS 2016 Day 1:

Y/Project Men's RTW Spring 2016The men‘s fashion-week action has shifted from Milan to Paris. Openign day had some noted names starting from Raf Simons, Valentino, Haider Ackermann, Walter Van Beirendonck, Strateas Carlucci and Y Project.

Simons showed some conventionally appealing alternatives. Matrix-like dusters emblazoned with artisanal abstract madras lines, coats embellished with metal grommets in the form of diamonds or chevrons, and buttoned bejeweled short sweaters still challenged fashion notions, just ones that were easier to comprehend.

Valentino Spring/Summer 2016 menswear show took the audiences on a world tour of style with the souvenir silk jackets embroidered with tigers or dragons or sliver thread patches in forms of mythical creatures, 1940s inspired Hawaiian t-shirts and most loved denim jeans. The craftsmanship was outstanding, series of coats covered in brightly colored botanical leather appliqué; patchwork denim camouflage jackets are worth mentioning.

Walter Van Beirendonck show was titled “Electric Eye,” a reference to the Judas Priest song with a long instilled deep messages in his collections. While the Y/Project hosted at the famed Le Gibus club had clean lines, drastic volumes, surface over decoration, a distinctly ’90s flavor by creative director Glenn Martens.
