Anamika’s tryst with design and style began with the Damania Fashion Award in 1995 which jumpstarted her career, and saw the beginning of the label "ANAMIKA KHANNA". Her look is global with ethnic Indian craft as her mainstay. Anamika’s international label, "Ana Mika" has been showcasing at the London Fashion Week and at trade shows in Paris, Singapore, New York and Los Angeles.

She feels fashion is all about reinventing oneself and the result is a grunge-ethno-preppy mish mash. Known for continually pushing fashion’s envelope, this eclectic dresser is currently one of the most sought after name in the Indian fashion circuit as can be adjudged from the crush of cooing buyers lining up for her shows. She very well understands the emerging consciousness for global fashion trends transcending borders and thus tries to keep abreast.

She feels that one needs to have one’s own look expressing his/her individuality and not just jump on the bandwagon and start chasing all the trends. If one is a glamour-puss who dresses up for events, he/she also needs to dress up for work too. If one is preppy and classic, one tries to make it more emphatic. She strongly supports the view that ‘reinvention of oneself’ is all in the details, the fine points that can do wonders to transform one’s style instantly and provides an easy avenue to evolution. The Anamika Khanna look is subtle, simplistic and innovative.

  • Won the ‘Kingfisher Award for the Fashion Designer of the Year’, 2004.

  • Chosen to showcase at the ‘Lakmé India Fashion Week Finale’, 2004.

  • Other major awards include an induction into the Damania Fashion Hall of Fame, the Exports Council Award and the Texcellence Award for Outstanding Boutique (Female).

The year 2007 landed with an invitation to showcase her brand along with Manish Arora at the Paris Fashion Week, the first for any Indian designer, which laid the foundation for a pared-down elegance that was the talk of the fashion fraternity for quite a long period after the audience drooled over her sartorial offerings, for which she had admittedly returned to her ‘inherently utilitarian’ roots. She feels people are returning to old comforts such as nesting at home, so a more functional style like a chambray shirt is reminiscent of home and country style, which is more comfortable and relevant than, say, a hyper-real, fantastical future trend. The keystone components of utilitarianism don’t have to be designer or break the bank. Strictly conformist in the non conformist way, her look is global with ethnic Indian craft as her mainstay.

She retails from Ensemble, Ogaan, Carma, Kimaya, Evoluzione, Ffolio and Elahe besides her flagship store in Kolkata.
