The poignancy layered with dreams make Croatia born New York based designer and artist Mandali Mendrilla dedicate her latest couture collection to her late husband.

The Fall Winter 2012 collection titled, ‘Slave2Love’ is a result of the designer’s pursuit of truth and beauty, and is dedicated to her husband, Elisha Nitai Drury, who died in a car accident this January. It featured some interesting designs mainly in hues of black and white with accents of red and yellow. The dresses have recurring motifs of heart, bell, butterfly and flowers.

About her collection Mandali said, “It is an expression of the fragile nature of the human form versus the eternality of indwelling spirit, inspired by Chuang Tzi’s butterfly metempsychosis and the eternal wisdom of the ancient scripture Bhagavad-Gita – the fluttering organic hand painted cloth expresses a longing for attainment of undying worlds within.”

Manish SS12 Collection LaunchThe day the news of Manish’s break up with PacoRabanne surfaced, the designer showcased his Spring Summer 2012 collection at his Lodhi Colony store in New Delhi with much pizzazz.

The latest collection presents itself as a fascinating expedition that introduces an amalgamation of the futuristic with reminiscent. The infusion of Manish’s trademark playfulness through addition of iridescent and bright florescent accents brings a refreshing contrast on black, brown and white hues.

For the collection designer takes inspiration from the joie de vivre of the 60’s decade with the silhouettes flowing into easy and relaxed shapes featuring mini flared skirts, blousons, well-tailored jackets, innovative tent dresses, raised neck tops, pleated overlap trousers and acidic denims.

The use of techniques like iridescent patchwork, 3-D black & white swirls, cross-stitch, hippie fringes, frayed edges and swish feathers, exist with the beautiful hand embroideries and prints such as Happy People print.

The showcasing saw the who’s who of the city’s glam brigade jazzing up the event. Launched lately at One India Bulls Centre with the aim of creating nice within the exhaustive hospitality industry, the place pays tribute to the world of fashion and luxury with its dedicated spaces and praise worthy musical acts. The famed Metropolitan Museum of Art had Alexander McQueen’s Savage Beauty on exhibit last year, taking the world by awe. Well, this year all eyes are set on the Met’s Spring 2012 exhibition, ‘Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations’, scheduled from May 10 to August 19, 2012.

The exhibition explores the striking affinities between Elsa Schiaparelli, the famous Italian fashion designer of early days, and Miuccia Prada. It features orchestrated conversations between these two iconic women to suggest new readings of their most innovative work.

On display will be 90 designs and 30 accessories by Schiaparelli from the late 1920s to the early 1950s and by Prada from 1980s to present. The former is known as the key fashion figure of the flappers’ era, known to be associated with Surrealist movement and created such iconic pieces as ‘Tear Dress’ and ‘Shoe Hat’.

The signature objects of Schiaparelli to be exhibited have been sourced from various institutes and private collections across the world whereas Prada will unveil her own archive, and be arranged in various themed galleries, focusing on how both women explore similar themes in their work through different approaches.

Amit GT to Showcase in KuwaitThe Indian designer who started his career from the ramps of Singapore some seven years ago is now all set to show his bridal and couture collection at Kuwait Fashion Showcase, to be held from 14th to 16th May, 2012.

It’s designer Amit GT who will be showcasing his decadent line of couture and bridal gowns featuring innovative and intricate couture techniques of textures and embellishments, at the event. The gowns will be in various shades of ivories in duchesse satins, crepe de chines and mousselines.

About the essence of his collection, Amit says, “There is underlying sense of romanticism viewed through the prism of structured and contemporary styling. The objective behind the collection was to create bridal and couture pieces for a woman who does not want to look dated and yet does not want to abandon the classic sense of romance.”

Paul Smith Goes Ivy WayThe very slick and modish Ivy style inspires designer Paul Smith to create an exclusive men’s collection for an online retailer, MR Porter.

The collection which takes inspiration from Take Ivy, a book of photographs shot on US Ivy League campuses in 1960s, features retro timeless Ivy look with a contemporary twist. The designer who had held the reins of the French fashion house last year left his position as the Creative Director of the couture house putting an end to a year-long partnership by mutual agreement, as announced through a press release.

Hailed as the king of Kitsch, Manish, who is known for his vibrant designs, had recently showcased the eccentric Fall Winter 2012 collection for PacoRabanne, the second by the designer for the couture house.

Anna Dello Russo for H&MAfter running fashionable scissors of words, entrenching surrealistic idea of fashion, being printed on t-shirts and launching fragrances, Anna Dello Russo, the editor-at-large and creative consultant for Vogue Japan, has now donned the hat of an accessory designer.

The fashion director famous for her unique maximalist kind of style has teamed up with Swedish high street chain H&M to design a glamorous eccentric range of accessories. The collection titled, ‘AdR for H&M’ features over the top jewellery, shoes, sunglasses and bags in lashing of gold and accent of turquoise.

A snake themed piece of gold, jewel encrusted sunglasses and high heeled gold stilettoes are the few highlights of the collection which will hit the stores of H&M and be available online from October 4, 2012.
