The Olympic rush seems like driving all and sundry, and Nike Sportswear wants to leave no stone unturned. Measuring the Olympic fever the brand unveils its ‘What the Max’ collection.

The collection features three different styles in bold primary palette using hyperfuse technology. The classic Nike silhouette is prepped up with techno-pop shades to bring alive – Nike Air Max 90, Nike Air Max 95 and Nike Air Max 2012. These kicks interesting boast of latest heat fusion adhesion technology instead of the overused cut-and -sew method.
The collection will be launched globally this month.

Food and Shoe Making BrunchSatiating your taste buds while letting your fingers dance to the tunes of your creative urges give a kind of high that is hard to define. And one beautiful morning in the Capital witnessed a similar affair at The Asian Kitchen, New Delhi, of late.

The brunch with art of food making and shoe making, hosted by Swati Modo and Sanjay Chadha of The Asian Kitchen came as a meeting point for food and fashion enthusiasts where the activities like food grilling, water chestnut making and shoe sketching happened in tandem.

The first of its kind event witnessed the glam brigade of the city relishing this activity brunch. The attendees included Neha Chadha, Mania Bhasin,MeenakshiSud Dutt, PoojaMotwani,KanwalSahni, Niket&Jainee, Dolly J, Jyoti Sharma, AamirZakir and many more. 
 
The Haberdashery in MumbaiThe concept of signature experiential haberdashery store embraced the city of Mumbai with the launch of ‘The Hab’ by Usha at Linking Road in Bandra, of late.

This first of its kind store in India opened with an aim of making sewing a trendy concept offers the best in sewing with multiple choices in accessories like buttons, borders, zippers, beads, embellishments, threads, do-it-yourself kits and other miscellaneous items. The store also displays the best of the Usha Janome automatic sewing and embroidery machines with a team of sewing experts to guide one through the process of sewing and customising.

The store with well-planned interiors boasts of a signature window installation at the entrance, designed by the internationally acclaimed Indian designer Manish Arora. About which the designer said, “The installation is inspired by the vibrant colours of the playful festival of Holi and symbolises energy. Its bursts of colour and vibrant motifs are inspired by the annual Jaipur Elephant Festival, accentuated using a mix of sequins, buttons, heart shapes and different coloured water guns.”

The launch of the very first such store in Mumbai, which will later be opened in other cities saw the who’s who of the city making it to the event. The work of Vancouver based photographer and graphic designer Hayden Wood, this photoshoot which by no angle looks anything closer to life features breathing models Meagan Therese Squire and James Webb.

The shoot which is inspired by the cover art of Nicki Minaj’s latest album ‘Pink Friday’ is the brainchild of the female model of the shoot, Squire and has been graphically created by Hayden Wood following the living doll trend making the rounds across the fashion industry these days.

The songstress being talked about is none other than Lady Gaga who recently appeared wearing a white dress from the Fall Winter 2012 collection of Indian designer duo Alpana and Neeraj. The outfit featured 3-D crystal embroidery on the shoulders, leather panels on the sculpted panel bodice and molded below the knee pencil skirt.

Lady Gaga accessorized the look with white Perspex headpiece inspired by Mickey’s ears from Little Shilpa, along with a pair of white sunglasses, matching leather gloves and lace covered towering platform.

Iris Apfel Designs HandbagsThe 90-year old American fashion icon, Iris Apfel, showing no signs of her age save those dispensable crisscrossing lines on her visage (though the same quaint face was a canvas for MAC Cosmetics a while ago) launches her exotic collection of handbags.

The range of handbags named, ‘Extinctions’, screaming of her modish, maximalist and unrelenting persona, is comprised of some real biggies made of materials like Mongolian lamb, calf hair and snake skin. The big bags brandishing the bigger and better bird like Iris will come in 12 distinct styles and five shades.

The act of recycling seems like making an inroad into the dazzling alleys of fashion like never before. The shrill to embrace recyclable fashion is echoed by Ananaya presenting its Spring Summer 2012 collection of accessories.

The range of colorful clutches and handbags made out of Chindi fabric and recyclable material is the flavour of the season, reflecting the colors and hues of sunrays and beauty of glass beads outlined with silk thread hand embroidered onto clutches. The highlights of the collection are the clutches made with handmade beads strung together and embroidered onto a bag for a style statement doubling up as a handle, for functionality.

Giving a peep into her collection, Nupur Batra of Ananaya, says, “We have used a lot of chindi in our spring summer 2012 collection. We are working with master craftsman from Nagpur, who has been weaving this for years and it surely feels good, to turn around old mundane waste to bags that are being walked with on fashion ramps.”
 
Cottonscape 2012The uniqueness of cotton was hailed of late by Cotton Council International in Mumbai by organizing Cottonscape; a day dedicated to the fabric.

The celebrations unfolded to highlight the various aspects of cotton put forth through different mediums varying from art installation to photography exhibit to fashion shows involving the venerated names of fashion and textile industry.

The evening opened with a trend presentation by SunaHasan, the Trend Director at Stylesight, giving designers and brands insight into the anticipated trends for Autumn Winter 2012. She stated, “Cotton will have a strong presence next season.  Many people associate cotton with spring/ summer, but there are a lot of offerings in cotton in the cooler months also.  The thermal properties of cotton make it a great fabric for layering and keeping you comfortable in winter.”

Actually, Cottonscape came as an event centered on an industry discussion panel led by the Cotton Association of India titled “Cotton Promotion in India: what has been done, what needs to be done, and why it’s important”. The panel addressed issues facing cotton at the retail level such as eroding market share and competition from synthetic fibers while the versatility of the fabric was well exhibited through a cotton art installation featuring denim fabrics from Arvind’s Spring Summer 2012 collection as evening wear.

Exploring the various facets of the fabric, the event had fashion shows by designers Anita Dongre and Rina Dhaka, along with Provogue showcasing its Spring Summer 2012 collection featuring men’s shirts in hues like pink and orange paired with trousers in grey and black. Designer Anita Dongre’s brand, Grassrootpresented an exclusive collection with a full spectrum of pieces including gowns, jackets, pants, skirts and salwaar suits. Long gowns with traditional block print from Rajasthan in an earthy palette of beiges, rusts, mustards, browns and blacks were a highlight of the evening.
About her association with Cottonscape, Anita Dongre, said, “I am very excited about this collaboration as I love working with cotton and enjoy styling the fabric for the day wear and the glamorous evening wear also”.

The evening came to a close with an exclusive cotton collection by Rina Dhaka who belted out her Indian Prêt Wear line with block printed and hand dyed fabrics sourced from the emporiums of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. The color palette ranged from subtle creams to luxurious ivories and earthy browns with unexpected pops of bright burnt orange and white.  Embroideries and intricate thread work adds texture and lavishness to the collection.

Designer Rina Dhaka put, “It is a pleasure to once again work with Cotton Council International. I feel cotton is an extremely versatile fabric that translated well into so many applications. I hope the Indian industry continues to support such efforts in the future.”

The evening also witnessed the best of the names from fashion industry being honored for their commitment to cotton in a glamorous award ceremony. Best Menswear in Cotton was bagged by Hemant Lecoanet while Rahul Mishra got the Best Womenswear in Cotton award. Masaba won the Emerging Influencer in Cotton, the Outstanding Achievement in Promotion of Cotton by a Designer award went to Narendra Kumar and the Outstanding Achievement in Promotion of Cotton by a brand went to Fab India.

The fantasticalworld of fashion took a backseat of late when Oscar nominated director Ashvin Kumar premiered his latest thriller ‘The Forest’ in New Delhi and Mumbai.

The 80 minutes long movie, starring JaavedJaffri, Nandana Sen, AnkurVikal and Saleem in the lead, is an ecological thriller of a man-eating leopard addressingenvironmental issues, and is releasing in theatres on May 11, 2012.

The screening of this short film saw Ashvin Kumar welcoming the guests, along withhis mother, designer Ritu Kumar. The crème de la crème who made it to the premiere  included Abraham &Thakore, Anita Dongre, Sunil Sethi, ArshadWarsi, Prahalad Kakkar, Nandita Basu, Nida Mahmood, Raul Chandra,Anupama Dayal, Poonam Bhagat, Sanjeev Batra, AmanNath, Iqbal Malhotra, SunainaAnand, AnjolieEla Menon, RanjeetaKant, AD Singh, Ramola Bachchan and Jaya Jaitelyamongst others.
