Now in its 19th edition, AltaRomAltaModa  held from 8 to 11 July 2011 at its usual headquarters, namely Complesso Monumentale S. Spirito in Sassia.

Well-established names of historic Maisons including Sarli, Curiel, Balestra and Gattinonionce again confirm their preference for Rome. Hailing from the Lebanon, Altaroma is once again proud to welcome back Abed Mahfouz, Tony Ward and Jack Guisso. Furthermore, the catwalks of Rome also saw the presentation of collections by Rami al Ali with his couture glamour together with those by Giada Curti and Nino Lettieri.

The third edition of limited /unlimited, the exhibition project developed by Silvia Venturini Fendi which represents the new soul of Altaroma: avant-garde concepts and research encounter sartorial tradition, giving life to neocuture.

During fashion week the city came alive and is animated by exhibitions, events, store openings and book presentations.Rome with its immense cultural heritage is increasingly considered as an additional reference point in the firmament of Italian artistic creativity. The city’s mission is to represent a place where historic sedimentation and cultural fusion are broken up and then recomposed in order to thus coexist within a new dynamic equilibrium.

A silent crusader of the Indian Fashion Industry, Suneet Varma has been a name to reckon with from its very infancy. The inspiration for his new Couture collection at the upcoming Couture week in New Delhi on the 23rd of July at 9:30 pm. is the Kamasutra!

“…those things which increase passion should be done first, and those which are only for amusement or variety should be done afterwards”, says Suneet.

The most celebrated Hindu texts in the world today, the Kamasutra has inspired many a prose, art and storytelling. Hinting seduction with every glimpse of an ankle, adorned by a delicate pajeb, the various interpretations of Kamasutra have inspired the designer  to create a sexy, translucent, sheer collection that adorns the body and bejewels the soul. Through the canvas of cutwork and color, fuschia, navy, ivory, black, silver and golden, he explores the sensitivity and detail that envelops this art of lovemaking.

In Bollywood for 30 years, celebrity makeup and hairstylist duo Bharat & Doris have huge plans for their future, révèle Sourendra Kumar Das.

They are the favoured make-up artists of Aishwariya Rai Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Lara Dutta, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Rani Mukherji and Preity Zinta. Among the men, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan vie for their attention. Very few people in the glamour industry can do without the ministrations of Bharat and Doris Godambe.

While the celebrity make-up artist and hair stylist duo have broadened their horizons in the past 30 years by endorsing B & D (their own line of cosmetics) and starting an academy to teach hair-styling and make up to aspiring professionals, there’s better news for their fans with the unveiling of their fourth store in the city.

Emphasizing the importance of hair-styling, Doris says, “The beauty of a person is determined from top to bottom. At the top lies the hair. So, without a proper hair-style you are incomplete.”

Known for creating the ‘flawless’ look with their trend setting hairstyles, the duo stress on the importance of communication with clients. Bharat and Doris explain: “We first listen to their ideas and then suggest something we think is closest to their options, thus creating the best we can.”

To the young stylists who flock to their academy, Bharat and Doris impart a supportive message, “It is their decision and implementation of creativity that ensures success. We do help them showcase their talent, but being up to date with the latest trend is a must.”

For Doris, it is creativity and a passion for ‘tress-perimenting’ that has contributed to her success. “I always want to create something new,” says the winner of awards like the Kingfisher Awards 2001 and the IIFA Awards 2008 for Best Hair and Best Make-Up. Counting Jaya Bachchan as one of her muses, Doris says, “I feel she is a complete woman. She is taking care of her family, despite being a huge celebrity. She is the one person who inspires me.”

So what are Bharat and Doris’ plans for 2011? “Two books – the first on our journey of 25 years, and the second on how to groom celebrities will be launched in August and September, respectively. You guys are in for a big surprise!” smiles Doris.

PUMA Running strode into 2011 with a fun, innovative and technologically advanced range of running shoes—The PUMA Faas Collection. Faas gets its name from the Jamaican word for fast, and the name fits. The collection is grounded in performance and features a biomechanical design technology, called BioRide™ that provides a naturally responsive ride – helping runners get into their own rhythm for increased speed and performance.

The innovative BioRide™ technology featured in the Faas shoes spent years in development.  PUMA took a look at some of the fastest athletes affiliated with the brand and studied their movement, foot placement and overall running skills. There were three proven and consistent skills that were identified as critical to top performance.  PUMA translated these elements into three categories—Rocker, Flex & Groove—that become the cornerstones of the BioRide™ technology and the Faas shoes.

The Faas range from Autumn/Winter 2011 features bright, bold colors with unique overlays and design details for each style. PUMA Running’s new Faas Collection brings the joy back into running with increased speed and performance, along with some ‘check-me-out’ designs.

The absolute highlight on the penultimate day of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin was Iris van Herpen’s show in the venue at the Brandenburg Gate, presented by Mercedes-Benz. The Dutch designer, already a rising star in her native land and one of the most celebrated performers at the Paris haute couture fashion shows, presented a true firework of originality and avant-garde beauty.

Iris van Herpen’s style is inspired by the combination of craftsmanship and innovative materials. Metallic silk, polyamidic powder and smoked leather are the ingredients of her sculptural and futuristic silhouettes which are startingly rich in contrast. The Spring/Summer collection 2012 seems to defy gravity in its play with amorphous shapes, which truly seem to originate from another planet. This fascinating show intrigued the invited guests, including celebrities like Mo Asumang, Monika Griefhahn, Karoline Herfurth, Hannah Herzsprung, Annabelle Mandeng, Rita Serra-Roll, Bruno Spengler and Verena Wriedt.
