Shantanu Nikhil’s new Couture collection at the upcoming Couture week in New Delhi on the 24th of July’11 at 8:00 pm, takes the viewer into a land of paradise, where fantasy meets reality. The set exuberates luxury, which is set in the Elizabethan Era with exotic birds and stuffed rabbits scattered across the ramp.

It’s every woman’s living dream to add a touch of vintage royalty and a hint of exuberance to her contemporary surroundings as she gets ready to embrace the long-lasting dream of supreme happiness, says the designer duo.

She is the modern woman and a tale of sorts for many a bride who wish to break the shackles of the by-gone traditions and emerge an uninhibited person living her one chance to glory on a canvas of vivid realities depicting childhood fantasies bearing serene and natural expressions of love and everlasting memories. Her persona, draped in delicate textures & fluid fabrics in hues of Baby Pink, Aqua Blue & Dusty Orange sets the tone for the collection.

The young designer, Sakshee Pradhan lately enthralled the fashion oriented brigade of the city by her riveting debut show at The Grand, New Delhi.

The collection titled, ‘A Celebration of Classic Romance’ hails Indian mythical figure, Radha as the muse of the designer. Presenting her inspiration with a modern twist where Radha is fierce, sensual and innately confident, the collection displays contrasting elements of femininity and strength, embodying the quintessential woman.

The show started with a stunning line of dark gold fitted dresses, followed by a sequence vibrant colored couture gowns. This mélange of colors draws to a close with a series of breathtaking raw silk black gowns. Unique accessories such as bracelets, cuffs and dramatic headgears created using Swarovski pieces complimented well with the collection.

As a whole the collection consists of modern contemporary dresses and ball gowns, appropriate for red carpet events or formal cocktail evening. The gowns have been created using the multitude of net fabric complimented with delicate embellishments such as plain and colored crystals. The use of exquisite silk fabrics in deep jewel tones lends a rich and elegant feel to the collection.

On the occasion, Designer Sakshee Pradhan said, “I am excited and nervous both at the same time. The show and collection are a culmination of a long and exciting journey. I hope to have an eventful career in fashion design and this show is the very start. It is with the great pleasure that I present the audience with my rendition of this classic love story.”

The fashion designer with a social conscience, the art connoisseur with an appreciation for every thing hand-wielded and a subtle interior decorator;  Deepika Govind is a celebrated name of Indian fashion since its infancy.

Having relished the waters of different shores; Majors in Arts from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore and Masters in Economics at Stella Maris College, Madras, Deepika found her true calling in design while preparing for the exams of Indian Administrative Services.  She pursued her heart and attended various programs on sketching, pattern making, merchandising and spec drawing from NIFT Bangalore. She further inched towards her new found love; fashion, and worked with kalamkari and kasutii artists to hone her skills.

The designer believes that designing to her is an art in itself with all arts participating .You must be an architect for your sense of measure, a sculptor for your silhouette, a painter for your palettes and a musician to realize the rhythm and movement of the dress. Deepika loves to call herself a serious designer.  In a season full of giddy, colour-saturated fashion, her collection stands out for its restrained maturity, with judiciously-placed blasts of colors.  All her collections find a comfortable balance of Eastern crafting and Western construction.

Deepika further puts that the provocative power of the underplayed is her belief, and restraint is her leitmotif.  Her motivation is to create distinctive exclusive fabrics of high quality. The use of natural fibers such as linen, silk and cotton is Deeika’s way to express her respect towards materials coming from the earth and which will return to the earth. Now when it comes to inspiration, then the designer takes it from the fabric, draping directly on the form; designs flow therein.

Curious and innovative, Deepika launched her label way back in 1995, set up studio and workshop, and finally opened her store in March 2002 in Bangalore. Meanwhile, she styled for umpteen shoots, ad films and fashion editorials. Her first solo showcasing was in 1995, followed by one in 1996. In 2001 Deepika showcased at Lakme India Fashion Week as well as Hong Kong  Fashion Week under the Asia Pacific Designers’ showcase.  Since then she has been an active player in the export market, participating in the `Incredible India’ trade exposition at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2003 and also taking part in a trade fair in Dubai in April 2004.  Deepika showcased at WIFW in 2006 and 2007. In year 2009 designer enthralled the viewers at Peroni.

Currently, Deepika Govind retails from her  stores in Bangalore, Delhi and Hyderabad.
