Ballet Fashion
Fashion is somehow a form of ballet with ample drama and music echoing around. The lithe free whirling ballerinas, lost in their every step and stretch, are formidable enough to sweep one off his feet. The ballet is about dreams, fantasies and beauty, so is the fashion. The graceful acrobatic movements in white romantic tutus and corsets wield unparalleled feminine spell.
Though ‘Black Swan’ is almost a year old phenomenon which propelled the ballet fashion around the world with every Katie, Sally and Pussy going gaga over Natalie Portman, but somehow ballet has always been associated with fashion. Coco Chanel was always influenced by Ballets Russes, the Russian Ballet Company and designed costumes for several ballets. Evidently, brand’s two tone ballet shoe is still a signature piece of the house. The likes of Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and John Galliano have always been close to ballet.
The Spring Summer 2011 of fashion is dedicated to ballet with the names like Erdem, Chloe, Lanvin and David Koma reinterpreting ballet fashion in their signature styles. There is an abundance of romantic frills, tulle, laces, chiffon and silk on the ramp. Feathers, crystals, layers and pleats are making pirouettes around the world. Graceful ballerinas in white and red pleated skirts, opaque leggings, ballet pumps and ribbons have been romanticized enough to be the cynosure of this season.
Sleek bodysuits of early 90s and leotards are as much the part of ballet fashion as floating midi skirts with tucked in shirts (silk) and cardigans. Knee length accordion pleated flared skirts, skater skirts and ballet pink pumps graced by pink pastel make up, buns and braids stand for the beauty of ballet. The Spring Summer 2011 catwalks accentuated on colors, embellishments and embroideries on girlie fabrics.
The Spring Summer 2011 catwalks accentuated on the colors, embellishments and embroideries on the girlie fabrics, reigniting the craze for ballet inspired designs. The designers like Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel played mainly with laces, chiffons and feathers whereas Gauri and Nainika’s serene white collection had ballet elements with a heavy dose of femininity.
Preen to create Aldo shoes
Preen fashion designers Justin Thorton and Thea Bregazzi have exclusively created a collection for high-street store, Aldo.
“We have just been in Montreal working with their design team on the initial designs,” said Thornton.“It’s still in development, but the initial designs are looking very modern and sexy. Aldo really wants this range to be a fantastic high quality, directional product, so they will appeal to the Preen customer.”
And apparently, Preen look set to debut some of the footwear designs on the catwalk this season, ahead of their arrival in stores for spring/summer 2012.
“Yes for sure, from the runway to the sidewalk!” Thornton added. “We will be using some of the designs on the runway for our New York show in September.”
