1Esteemed Director and Author at the Museum at Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, Valerie Steele and curators  Ariele Elia and Elizabeth Way picked out Designer Wendell Rodricks’ opening gown constructed  on a swimsuit with ‘Beyonce worthy’ side show, to be included in the Global Fashion Capitals exhibition that opens in New York on 3rd June 2015.

The Wendell Rodricks gown that opened the AIFW by FDCI was chosen to join the ranks of designers from Worth to Dior in Paris and traces the trend of global fashion capitals Milan, London, New York, Tokyo to more recent fashion capitals the world over. Indiandesigner Manish Arora is also represented at the unique exhibition. But it is Rodricks 30 metres net panels built on a silver lycra swimsuit that is the most recent gown (from Spring/Summer Resort 2015) that will be added to the exhibit’s unique tracing of fashion’s emerging capitals from Paris to India.2

Says the Goan designer, “I am happy that India will take it’s place via Delhi and Mumbai among the world’s fashion capitals. We had a lot of hard work and fun putting together this fuschia and orange gown with floating satin orbs and circles in satin suspended from nylon wires. I am indeed honoured and happy for both Amazon and FDCI that Indian fashion advances on a global platform”.

Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg choice of clothes has led twitter readers to accuse him of following “gangsta” fashion. This is not the first time, a leader is accused for his clothing style, earlier Nicola Sturgeon’s fashion “transformation” led many on Twitter to question what she wore was relevant to her abilities as a politician. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s suits with his name printed all over led many people to question and gathered lots of attention on social media. Actress Deepika Padukone’s cleavage showing dress too created a stir on twitter.

It all began with a comment by a twitter user on Nick Clegg’s profile pic saying “Clegg you absolute roadman”. She then added, somewhat more cryptically: “Nick Clegg, more like Yung Clegg, am i rite?” Drawing attention to Clegg’s North Face sweater, Twitter users have suggested that the Lib Dem leader has undiscovered gangsta qualities.

Roadman’ suggests that Mr Clegg is a gentleman who knows his local area well, and is liable to be seen at any illegal parties in the region and‘Yung Clegg’ means that he is very cool.

Fashion retailer Glassons has come out with a D-minus rating in the latest Australian Fashion Report, which looked at the ethical practices of a number of clothing companies.

The report, commissioned by Baptist World Aidsurveyed 219 fashion brands on their policies, transparency, monitoring and training and workers’ rights. The report was generated in the wake of the 2013 Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh – in which 1100 workers lost their lives.

1Being involved in controversies like utilizing dummies with their ribs showing and an ad featuring a woman riding a bull which aroused anger in animal rights groups, Glassons got F rating except for its policies category in which they received D-plus rating.

Australian fashion brands including the Just Group, Ally, Valley Girl, Temt and Industrie, and low cost suppliers like Lowes and Best & Less got very low ranking while companies like Kmart, the Cotton On Group, H&M, Zara, Country Road and the Sussan Group received better ranks.

1In celebration of Earth Day, Swedish multinational retail-clothing company, Hennes & Mauritz showcased a sustainability booth in Union Square Park. The event featured environmental activities and entertainment for the customers.

Guests were encouraged to donate any brand of unwanted clothing to the H&M garment recycling bins and in return participants received 20% off on their next purchase from the brands more sustainable fashion pieces worn by stars like Jessica Alba, Olivia Wilde, Solange Knowles, Victoria Justice, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jennifer Lopez, Miranda Kerr, Emmy Rossumand more.

2H&M is one of the largest users of organic cotton in the world, and in the spring they created a limited edition Conscious Collection, made with high-quality fabrics including vegetable tanned leather and organic silk cultivated from mulberry trees. In addition, H&M was named one of the Most Ethical Companies of 2014 for the fourth consecutive year. They’ve also reduced CO2 emissions by 5% and saved close to 1,000,000 gallons of water by introducing water-saving techniques in their denim production.

Created two months ago by a French graphic artist Arthur Coulet, the tumblr blog titled ‘Gluten-free Museum’ is gathering attention for its consistently-updated compilation of art works and stills from famous film scenes with every single trace of wheat removed.

The blog features Johannes Vermeer’s ‘The Milkmaid’ where she has lost her bread, Disney’s Lady and Tramp are staring lovingly down onto a table of nothingness, Grant Wood’s American Gothic has lost its pitchfork and  The Simpsons’ Chief Wiggum has got his doughnut taken away. Other images where traces of wheat have been removed by the artist include ‘Le Petit Parisien’, Guinness advertand Chardin still life.

The artist was inspired by the image manipulations of the French Situationist movement to critique the celebrity-driven fads of contemporary society. The Gluten Free Museum contains multitudes, hinting at both class elements that underlie the gluten-free fad and the protein’s intrinsic importance in our lives.

According to studies only 1 percent of the British population suffers from coeliac disease, commonly known as gluten intolerance. However, statistics show that sales of gluten-free products rose by 15 percent last year. The difference has raised questions over the medical legitimacy of some people’s wheat-free diets.
