250The fifth edition of the annual CFDA/Lexus Eco-Fashion Challenge was held at The Modern in New York City. Every year, the Council of Fashion Designers of America gathers a selection committee which selects one winning designer and two runner-up designers on the basis of design credibility, business acumen and eco-commitment. This year, the committee comprised of Julie Gilhart, Cornejo, Timo Rissanen, Melissa Joy Manning and more.

The proud winning fashion brand for this year was the enigmatic four year old jewellery brand K/LLER and the runner-up winners were Reformation and Study NY.

While each of the winners bagged a grand prize money, this accomplishment also enables the designers to come into the limelight and establish their business on a larger scale.

Based in Jaipur, this designer truly defines the picture of the prince and maharajas in Rajasthan during the ancient times, and the royalty and magnificence attached to them. The main attraction of his creations is the way he manages to keep intact the wearer’s grace and individualistic style, despite the advancing times, technology and transforming trends.

Moreover, his inspirations take one further into the beauty and oneness of Indian cultures. Belonging to one of the most culturally rich states of India, Himmat is extremely fond of Rajasthan’s diverse traditions, its vibrant colours, arts and craft. Also, he uses extremely natural fabrics for his creations, which mostly include cotton, linen, tweed, denims, velvet and brocades with embellishments of zardozi, gota pati and detailed hand work.

Lakshmi Rana and Sonalika Sahay were the designer’s muse for the evening as the store was transformed into an elegantly decorated space with beautiful white roses and flickering candles wherein Tisca Chopra made an appearance alongwith Jaya Jaitley and Mr. Kiren Rijiju- Minister of State of Home Affairs, Ritu Kumar, Mohini and Sanjay Guleria, David Mathews, Gaurav Jai Gupta, Sal Tahiliania, Kate Elizabeth, Jenjum Gadi,Liza Varma and Kitty Kalra amongst many.

30 unprofitable stores in Japan have been closed by the world’s largest retailer Wal-Mart, in order to improve effectiveness of its business in the world’s third largest economy. These stores were functional under Seiyu brand and accounted for 7% of Wal-Mart’s 434 stores in Japan.

580The news came following the reduction of its full-year profit forecast in August due to higher costs and investments.

Also, Wal-Mart now looks forward to reshape 50 existing Japanese stores next year and invest in online shopping.

According to statement from Wal-Mart, the company will now concentrate resources on driving continued strong performance in locations that are convenient for customers and are open to an improved shopping experience.
