Filming Fabulous Nobodies
Unraveling the fashion scene of Manhattan of 80s, ‘Fabulous Nobodies’ by Lee Tolloch will soon be given life, as the so called ‘revenge novel’ is being adapted into a film by ‘The September Issue’ director R.J Cutler.
The critically acclaimed 1989 novel penned by the fired former editor-in-chief of Australian Harper’s Bazaar for being too creative, revolves around Reality Nirvana Tuttle – the fashion obsessed, up talking, strong headed door girl at a nightclub in Manhattan of 80s. The protagonist’s love for everything fabulous – from a Chanel tattoo to 80 club clothes to Reality talking with her frocks – make the story fashionably gripping.
The book came in being when author Lee Tolloch left Sydney for New York City seeking revenge after being fired as an editor to only fall for the vagaries of the glitz and dark of fashion later.
Cartier in Art Dubai
Nature takes over the Cartier pavilion in Art Dubai. Walls come to life with wild animals and plants, complete with lighting and sound. Blurring the boundaries of reality, fauna and flora take the stage in a life-size theatre of the wild.
‘Cartier Naturellement’, imagined by the artist Christophe Ponceau, is inhabited by dazzling animals and flowers, where the rarest of substances are used to evoke fur, flowers, feathers and twinkling eyes. It is a magical menagerie and a conservatory of light, soothed by the regal song of a bird in rubies or sapphires, or by the exhilarating scent of an orchid whose heart lulls in the depths of white diamonds.
Also, staged in this enchanting setting “Aquarium”, a mobile installation of precious stones by the Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes and crafted by the Ateliers Cartier, as commissioned by the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain.
“Cartier has always been passionate about nature, which has been present at the House since its very origins. And today with Cartier Naturellement creations we return to reinforce again this passion by creating a dream of nature, and a nature of a dream, with sumptuously beautiful, thrilling and wild pieces of jewellery” said Mr. Bernard Fornas, President Cartier International on this occasion.
