Milan Fashion Week Spring 2016 started with a bang. The day 1 was highlighted by mesmerizing spring collections by Gucci, Alberta Ferretti and Stella Jean.
Alessandro Michele for Gucci spring 2016 mixed familiar with unfamiliar. There were references from the 70’s era and vintage designs like flared trousers, the Lurex ruffles on sleeves and hems, and the rick-rack trims on block-coloured skirts and raised-waist dresses. Michele used the Carte de Tendre, a Renaissance map as a print on a dress, skirt and handbags. Further he introduced a stunning Gucci-green lace dress with red striped waist and floral overprinted logo coat on the ramp. Inspired from the lady of the desert, Alberta Ferretti showed chic and romantic bohemian collection. Models walked the ramp in slipdresses, folkloric shirts and shorts in filmy splices of black lace and tawny brown chiffon with bare lingerie cuts and ivory peasant blouses. There were hippie-luxe gowns and separates as well.
Stefania Bandiera for Les Copains showed a beautiful lineup of clothing filled with solid embroidery imitating porcelain patterns and origami-inspired 3-D knits. Stunning looks were an embroidered white top and cropped pants with a cream maxi cardigan and dresses made of ultrafine knit bonded with organza adorned with bold graphic stripes. Genny spring lineup by Sara Cavazza was sexy yet classy at the same time. Short tunics and jumpsuits were given an edgy look with cutouts and slits. Further painter Sonia Delaunay’s work inspired motifs and embroidery used on suit trousers, long fil coupé silk dress with deep front slits and fluid goddess gowns.
Stella Jean spring range “En Route,” focused vintage silhouettes. The vibrant collection had motifs inspired from Latin America, Europe, Africa and Italy. There were retro swimwears, vintage inspired jackets, flowy dresses, cropped loose pants and printed gowns. Alessandro Dell’Acqua for his label No. 21 presented mature and creative spring collection. He fused Nineties roughness with the softer, more feminine style to create designs like silk-frilled slipdresses, fluid chiffon frocks printed with cigarette, workwear-inspired lace jumpsuit and sensual asymmetric pencil skirt.
Fausto Puglisi came up with an eclectic spring collection featuring minidress in black chiffon, heavy biker jacket, draped jersey in vivid jewel tones, striking ivory column with a partial cape and gleaming green satin jacket. Many outfits were festooned with metal seashells. Fay brand’s spring offering by Roberto Rimondi and Tommaso Aquilano had a seventies feel. Gracing the runway were creative and varied designs like delicate silk dress with lace inserts, embroidered jeans, frilled minidress and field jackets in different lengths and variations.
