Gucci’s show at Milan was ranging across inspirations from the 600 years and today. Alessandro Michele had thought about flowers and insects and 1970s rock stars, and he was thinking about Gucci and its archives and what was in there.

There were a number of new loafer styles that I’m sure several street style stars have already inquired about pre-ordering. Shoes had refined touches of wilderness, such as floral-print linings or hand-painted snake coils on the block heels of mules.

With 600 years as inspiration, footwear  used were fur-lined clogs and sandals, square toe sling backs, leaf print mules where upper were shaped in leaf with gold pippin and hand painted heal, lace bow pumps, embroidered and floral print loafers and t strap platforms offering subtler riffs on the theme.

Milan Fashion Week Spring 2016 started with a bang. The day 1 was highlighted by mesmerizing spring collections by Gucci, Alberta Ferretti and Stella Jean.

Alessandro Michele for Gucci spring 2016 mixed familiar with unfamiliar. There were references from the 70’s era and vintage designs like flared trousers, the Lurex ruffles on sleeves and hems, and the rick-rack trims on block-coloured skirts and raised-waist dresses. Michele used the Carte de Tendre, a Renaissance map as a print on a dress, skirt and handbags. Further he introduced a stunning Gucci-green lace dress with red striped waist and floral overprinted logo coat on the ramp. Inspired from the lady of the desert, Alberta Ferretti showed chic and romantic bohemian collection. Models walked the ramp in slipdresses, folkloric shirts and shorts in filmy splices of black lace and tawny brown chiffon with bare lingerie cuts and ivory peasant blouses. There were hippie-luxe gowns and separates as well.
