Here are some fashion trends that ruled the roost in 2014:

So Celine!

The French luxury brand was such a stunner all year round that later the brand name got coined as an adjective. Celine, now a word in the fashion vocabulary stands for chic clothing known for clean cuts and minimalist colour schemes yet luxurious fashion. A lot of designers have taken up the trend with the ultra-clean yet chic look.

1Brightly Lacey!

With lace being among the top trends this year, designers embraced them not only on the runway, but also in a riot of bright colours. A perfect component to your summer wardrobe, they screamed warmth and happiness. Designers like DKNY, Preen and Dior showcased lace in an array of colours.

2Normcore!

It’s time to ditch out the fancy peacocking clothes for the normcore trend has made its mark on the runways this year. Outfits showcased by numerous designers like Hermès, Christopher Kane, Victoria Beckham were not very girly but rather androgynous in nature. With denims and t-shirts, pantsuits blurring the lines between gender defined clothing, it gave a sense of empowerment to women out there who can handle power and responsibility.

3Scottish High!

The land famous for its textiles witnessed a rich variety of fabrics on the runway. Popular fabrics like tweed synonymous to Chanel, tartan, plaid were quite evident throughout Fall Winter’2014. The colours had an earthy appeal with a hint of masculinity in terms of fabric texture.Salvatore Ferragamo, Chanel, Prada were sporting designers of this trend.

4Crop it Out!

The ‘cropped look’ in terms of tops, bottoms or hairstyles for that matter were sold like hot cakes this year. It was all about flaunting those toned mid-ribs. Treated and experimented upon by designers in their own unique ways, the crop look surely led the way for many this year.

As we bid adieu to the year that just went by, it’s time to have a glimpse of some of the international trends that really stood out and made their statement in the domain of fashion. Time to go down 2014’s fashion lane and be updated on the popular trends that made the rounds:

Sporty Chic

From the runways of luxury brands like Chanel, Dior to designer collaborations with Adidas, the fusion of sportswear into mainstream fashion definitely commanded attention. The trend definitely stood out for women who were fashionable yet comfortable in their own skin. Mixing glamour with the athletic attitude seemed to be the flavor of the year.

1The Lacey affair

Feminine and ethereal, lace can never go out of style. With lace, one can choose to be subtle or go all the way sheer. Apart from the classic shades of white and black, pastels can also seem to be a great option as shown in the above Burberry Prorsum collection. For an evening affair, lace can add to the dramatic effect with darker shades as shown from D&G S/S 2015.

2Floral Shower

The year 2014 saw an array of collections showcasing botanical fantasies in their own ways. From 3D flowers to contrasting floral patterns, no stone was left unturned when it came to floral fashion. A popular street style choice, many fashionistas were spotted wearing floral print skirts pants and nail art in the summer.

3Peplum

A trend that has been carrying forward from the recent years, the Peplum form, whether top or bottom has been a popular choice this year. The peplum silhouette flatters a variety of body type’s especially curvy women. They can be worn in all the seasons and are available in a variety of fabrics. A must have for every woman’s wardrobe, the peplum seems here to stay.

4Normcore

The trend catching up lately with a concept of not standing out from the crowd, normcore seems like the next fashion revolution. With jeans, sneakers and a simple tee being its staple elements, normcore fashion somehow takes me back to the 90s fashion street. One of the most googled trend of 2014, it is highly evident in street style especially the hard-to-miss celebrities!

5Cerulean

Cerulean blue seemed to be a favourable shade on the designer’s canvas. Seen on the runways of Burberry, YSL & Rodarteit became a hot trending colour of the year.

The year 2014 definitely underwent a sea change of beauty makeovers. While some donned looks I could personally kill for, the others were just… (To put it that way) Here is a list of some of the fast catching beauty looks spanning all the seasons:

Short is Hot

It’s time to wave those long locks goodbye as 2014 witnessed some dramatic hair transformations with many opting for shorter manes. From pixie cuts to asymmetric cuts, short hair definitely stood out this year adding to raw feminine beauty. From the likes of celebrities such as Kristen Stuart, Emma Stone, Anne Hathaway to Jourdan Dunn, short hair seems here to stay.

1Bang Bang!

Bangs emerged as a beauty statement this year. An ideal hairdo for long foreheads, bangs help define the face and not to miss, it makes one look young. Having bangs myself, I take pride in this trend and recommend y’all to try this trend atleast once in your life! It adds an element of fun to your hair making you look unique.

2The Partial Buzz

The year 2014 was all about feminine edginess especially when it came to hairstyles. The partial buzz cut was a common phenomenon among youngsters and celebrities alike. Giselle Bundchen, Charlize Theron, Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus (majorly) were some of trendsetters of the partial buzz cut.

3Slicked Back Hairstyle

From the runways to the red carpet, slicked back hair has been trending all year. It gives a clean yet chic look. Whether heavily gelled or simply swept back it gives a highly minimalistic & sophisticated appearance.

4

Lipstick Trend

Think tangerine, blood orange, fuschia! This year was all about the brights worn with contrasting skin tones to make the beauty statement. Apart from these bright shades, marsala also became the raging colour for fall. Whatever trend might come and go, one colour that will never fade is rich Red. What a LBD is to dresses, such is red to lips.

5

The Blue Eyes

Blue was a popular eye shadow choice this year. From the lights to the darks, from matte to the metallic, blue as an eye shadow shade works well with evening looks. As a colour, it really flatters all complexions.

6

Fresh-faced beauty

Taking the beauty-comes-from-within-dialogue seriously, a lot of women have gone makeup free. Going along normcore routes, many are opting for the natural look sans foundation and the frills. Following beauty the parisienne way is definitely the next ‘in’ thing!

7

Armpit Sensation

Taking things from natural to bizarre, a weird trend did the rounds in 2014. Several youngsters took to Instagram to show their affinity towards dyed armpit hair! Let your imagination run wild and imagine all the colours of the rainbow. Your reaction? Yes, exactly.

Fashion people really do eat, sentiment is a cliché, as we see them designing for toned figures. Having said that, it is kind of surprising to see how many fashion people actually cook — like make food, in the kitchen — for the holidays.

Christmas being round the corner, we learned that fashion people actually have loads of tasty and imaginative recipes to share like their clothes, as we share Rachel Zoe’s recipe with our readers –

RACHEL ZOE’S BROILED ROSEMARY POTATOES

“I love this recipe because it’s perfect for entertaining,” the designer/stylist/TV star/author explains to fashionista. “Your house will smell as if you’ve been in the kitchen all day, yet the prep and cook time is less than an hour. Not to mention, the roasted potatoes make a beautiful presentation for your guests.”

INGREDIENTS AND DIRECTIONS:

You can use new potatoes, sweet potatoes or purple potatoes. Parboil the potatoes until softened (5-10 minutes). Cut potatoes into 1/2″ thick pieces.

Cover a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, coat the potatoes in melted butter or olive oil, sprinkle with garlic powder, fresh rosemary sprigs (dried is fine too), and salt & pepper.

Spread the potatoes onto a single layer on the cookie sheet and broil them in the oven. As they start to brown, toss the potatoes to ensure all sides are evenly browned (15 to 25 minutes). Done!
