JJ Valaya a well-known name in the Middle Eastern Royalty, in a one of its kind fashion and lifestyle collaboration showcases the first ever collection exclusively for Saudi Arabia’s Caravan 2014 at Harvey Nichols in Riyadh.

The collection displayed by JJ Valaya is timeless, rich, indulgent… grandeur and elegance at its finest! In essence, the JJ Caravan Collection is divided into 2 distinct collections; one based on Turkish influences and the second, inspired by Jamawar shawls and the Valaya signature paisleys, with detailed motifs and jaals that perfectly blend with the culture of Riyadh. The Jamawar effect is created on tulles, silk Jacquard and crepe with alluring multicolored resham work on blacks and ivory while the Turkish influence comes alive with pieces that are fabricated with muted metallic fabrics, hues of blue and red velvet, dupion silk and detailed patch work, alongwith a special edition of the classic abaya, a masterpiece in fine embroideries and applique.

The first ever Caravan in Riyadh is the initiative of the HNR CEO Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud and is been conceptualized as a 2 month long exclusive retail experience starting July to coincide with the start of the Ramadan season and ends on 31st August

JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore presented their Annual Design Awards 2014 to showcase the creations of the graduating students at a glittering function held at Chancery Pavilion. The show choreographed by Rahul Dev Shetty saw leading models of Bangalore sashaying the ramp.

The third day of the India International Jewellery Week included shows from jewellery brands like Saboo Fine Jewels, Emerald, Mahabir and KIK Jewels,  Golecha Jewels presented by HRD Antwerp, Nazraana by Rio Tinto and Bridhichand Ghanshyamdas Jewellers.

Starting with Saboo Fine Jewels, the show comprised of three collections, each with different inspirations and creativities. The foremost collection took its inspiration from the royalty associated with ancient Rajputs and Mughals. Replete of magnificent raani haars, grandeur polkis, extravagant pendants, matching bangles, all embellished with emeralds, rubies and diamonds. Whereas, the second collection was more concentrated on the sparkle, including diamonds and emeralds studded brooches, necklaces enhanced with pearls and giant flower petal pendants. The final collection was replete of the rare pink and orange gems jewellery, along with dazzling rubies, pearls and floral necklaces.

Moving on, Emerald Jewel Industry Ltd. came in with their collection with influences of the Mughal architecture, its traditional motifs, geometric patterns, and floral designs. Replete of rubies and emeralds embedded necklaces, earrings and bracelets, with additional glimpses of Mughal traditions, the collection seemed to be extremely ornate, unique and mesmerising.

Progressing further with Mahabir and KK Jewels, the Kolkata based designers gave a timeless appeal with their exquisite handcrafted bridal jewellery. With the use of artistic elements like antique gold and kundan, the designers creatively mix and matched the western and Indian traditions.

Meanwhile, Golecha Jewels were also a part of the bridal jewellery arena, where their collection included magnificent Ganesha carved pendants, raani haars, chand balis, kadas, bangles, rings etc., all beautified with rubies, diamonds and white gold. The collection truly reflected grandeur and bridal extravaganza.

Nazrana by Rio Tinto was the following show with as many as seven different collections, with differentiated themes and motifs, with the additional line for men’s jewellery as well. Including enamelling stones, sparkling diamonds, floral motifs and many more, the collection was complimented with traces of spirituality, contemporary influences and ancient Indian heritage as its inspirations.

Finally, the curtains were brought down by collections from Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas jewellers, models for whom walked in the latest collection designed by the fashion industry giants Shyamal and Bhumika. The designers presented their artworks under the bridal wear genre, replete of garments with timeless silhouettes and hand embroideries, complemented by the bright colour palette of rich red and champagne gold. The presentation of the collection was epitomised with the ornate jewellery by Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas jewellers, including Mughal enamelled kundan line, white and yellow gold creations embedded with precious stones and more timeless celebratory creations.

All in all, the India International Jewellery Week gave the ideal jewellery freaks and wedding follower fashionistas a treat with its varied and innumerable exquisite creations.

Continuing to provide an effective and career boosting platform to aspiring designers, the third day of the India International Jewellery Week saw a hub of emerging talent from the prestigious National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. Presented were six collections with four entries each, by seven participating graduates, who creatively displayed different versions of single metal through their creations.

To start with, Shrishti Gupta came in with her timeless creations in circular forms and rhythmic patterns for the necklaces, rings, bangles and pendants.

Following her, designer Tanaya Agarwal stepped forward presenting a collection inspired by paper folds, with minimal styles, focussing more on the natural and bold look. With layering as the common feature among all creations, the necklaces, bracelets and rings were further enhanced by rigidity and 3D effects.

Sukanya Pasi, on the other hand, showcased creations with coins as the inspiration embellished with multiple layering. With coins wrapped into elongated necklaces and chains and dual rings, the collection was novel and creative.

Moving on, Krupa Patel and Manoj Kuldeep evoked the tribal look through their creations, which included multiple circular necklaces and armlets in yellow majorly.

Whereas contrastingly, designer Anshula Mittal presented a delicate and simplistic collection which included bronze chains and neck pieces, which were unconventional yet contemporary.

Advancing forward, to give a graceful conclusion to the show, Sanskruti Thorat stepped ahead with her unique collection inspired by geometrical shapes and abstract forms. Replete of blocked necklaces, armlets, anklets, brooches and earrings, the theme of the collection particularly enthralled the onlookers to a great extent!

Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014, will see Masaba Gupta and Amit Aggarwal as show starters at the imminent fashion extravaganza.

A first timers as opening designers, the opening show will have Masaba’s distinctive and bold style with Amit’s unique and futuristic sensibilities.While Masaba will showcase ‘Wanderess’ under her own label inspired by renowned author Roman Payne, Amit Aggarwal labelled as a future fashion icon, Amit Aggarwal promises to showcase modern ensemble with strong tribal influences, will have couture dresses with menswear details to blend androgyny with the feminine.
