The fashionable journey of 24 years of couturier Krishna Mehta sees a rite of passage as the designer recently launched her flagship store cum bridal studio under her signature label ‘Krishna Mehta’ at Stone House, Chowpatty in Mumbai.

The store done up in pure whites with only the garments and a bougainvillea drape on the shop window for color, is located just off the sea front, and beautifully reflects the calmness and simplicity of the ocean.

The store houses Krishna bridal wear line for the season, featuring long floor hugging tunics with floral cut work and intricate embroideries, overlaid with sheer organza, sharara pants, brocade and cut work kurtas in elegant white & off-white with delicate floral motifs. Her signature touch this season is flowers like roses, on hems and cropped jackets to begin with, and move on to saris and kurtas.

Krishna’s other forte Indian wear for men, is also available at the store. With focus on textiles, the collection comprises of vibrant hues in kurtas, sherwanis and jackets in rich textiles such as jamavar, silks, cottons and khadi. And the peculiarity of these textile oriented ranges is that these textiles are specially woven for her by blind persons from a village in Gujarat that she has adopted.

On the occasion Krishna hosted a preview opening where in models showcased her latest collections for brides and grooms. About the launch of her new store she said, “Today I am happy and proud to present this bridal showcase at my new flagship store. The lovely location and perfect timings couldn’t have been better. The studio on the upper level allows me to have private consultations with clients. This is a space close to my heart and I am so happy to have Mugdha here with me this evening".

The luxury French label Hermes, famous for its exquisite scarves, has roped in visionary designer Rei Kawakubo, Creative Director of Japanese label, Commes des Garcons, to create two limited edition scarf collections.

The collaboration called ‘Comme des Carrés’ will see Kawakubo reinterpreting iconic Hermes carres. The scarf collection ‘Noir et Blanc’ will feature abstract designs in black and white while ‘Coleur’ will be a colorful range with geometric elements like patchwork, checks and shirt stripes.

The focus of the designer who sees Hermes scarves as beautiful artworks will be to change them by adding elements like abstract images to create a unique object.

The House of Piaget has called upon the talents of one of the finest illustrators to set the stage for the creations of the Biennale. Entirely developed and crafted in-house, the new Couture Précieuse collection pays homage to feminine beauty. The House dresses women in watches and jewellery that are as spectacular as they are exceptional, epitomising the veritable secrets of seduction.

Magnificently adorned by beautiful high jewellery creations, women reveal some of their seductive secrets. Graphic, airy and stylised jewellery sets emphasise women’s most appealing qualities. The magic of stones, with diamonds first and foremost, enhanced by rubellites or red and black spinels, cultivate mystery and surprise. This woman is never where one expects her to be…

David Downton, famous fashion illustrator and confidant of the world of Haute Couture, has created eight sketches immortalising some of the models presented by Piaget. His sharp eye and his timeless feel for feminine style – involving the use of gouache, acrylic paint and Indian ink – create splendid showcases for the jewellery sets by the House.

The jewellery sets borrow from the field of corsets and ribbons the art of modelling and accentuating shapes to perfection. Luminous laces cross over each other to suggest the sensuality of a décolleté and then uncross in perfectly flowing style.

The storied Indian couturier Suneet Varma celebrated his 25 years in fashion and art with his Fall Winter 2012 Couture show at the Leela Palace, New Delhi, recently.

The show that place on The Terrace of the hotel saw the circular ramp with a theatrical setting providing as the spectacular backdrop. The collection titled, ‘A Passage to India’ drew inspiration from the antiquity of the era when beautiful women from exotic lands around the world travelled to India and married the royal Maharajas, bringing in a western element to the traditional Indian aesthetic.

It featured sheer chiffon sarees decked with gold aari and thread embroidery in large floral motifs reminiscent of the Spanish culture and the beauty of the Punjab royalty. The highlight of the collection are white on white thread embroidery with a dash of color on long and short tunics with Capri trousers and Patiala salwars with tasseled triangular stoles with Spanish motifs over narrow trousers.

Another range narrating the story of Banu Pan Dei featured slim and narrow silhouettes with delicate embroideries. Sheer tulle sarees with grey and oyster pearls encrusted with Swarovski elements. Corseted blouses with decorative lace ties worn over voluminous crushed silk skirts. Fur shrugs decorated with ribbons and slim-fit velvet trouser suits.

While the story of Niloufer Farhat Begum Sahiba of the Ottoman Empire came alive in the form of long kalidar kurtas in black, teal, ivory and red with thread embroidery in ‘Topkapi’ motifs reminiscent of the rich Ottoman Empire. The highlights of the collection were sheer sarees with velvet jackets; light weight silk skirts and tunics with nostalgic antique embroideries; block printed ensembles in many shades of blue, Persian blue, turquoise, and navy teemed with dull gold. The ensembles were accompanied with handmade accessories of ropes and tassels knotted with metal elements in Turkish shapes.

Gucci seems in no mood to miss out on any opportunity, in the thriving luxury market of India. Lately, the storied Italian luxury label opened its fifth and largest store in India.

Located at The Oberoi, Gurgaon, the store spans more than 4,220 square feet over two floors, and boasts of a design concept by Frida Gianni. To mark this special launch, Gucci held a private cocktail party at the newly opened store – hosted by Patrizio di Marco, Gucci President & CEO with Vikram Oberoi of The Oberoi Group.

To commemorate the opening, exclusive iconic pieces from the Gucci Museo were showcased. These include items that represent the Houses’ eternal icon – the Flora pattern along with a selection of evening gowns from the House’s Florentine archives. Women’s ready to wear, original drawings of the Flora scarf from 1966, handbags with the flora and unique porcelain items were displayed on the ground floor.

Gucci Première dresses worn by Jessica Alba, Berenice Bejo and Salma Hayek along with a one of a kind dress worn by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was on display on the first floor. A large selection of these pieces and evening gowns were showcased for the first time. The exclusive exhibit will be on display for a month at the store.

The launch evening saw few illustrious names from all walks of life including the Ambassador of Italy, H.E. The Cleopatra of yesteryears, Elizabeth Taylor known for her flamboyant persona reincarnates in the form of Barbie dolls with exact glint of her violet eyes.

Lately, Mattel, the manufacturer of Barbie, unveiled two Barbie dolls, the visages of which were approved by the star herself ten years before her demise in 2011. The two dolls donning white and black outfits are named Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds Barbie Doll and Elizabeth Taylor Violet Eyes Barbie Doll, respectively.

The White Diamonds doll cutting an elegant serene picture sports a white dress with a red satin ribbon on the lapel representing the work Elizabeth did for HIV and AIDS. While the vixen-looking doll  clad in black dress with matching gloves, pumps and sunglasses with red ribbon on shoulder also symbolizes her work for the fatal diseases.

The World’s leading luxury Scotch whiskey , Royal Salute entered in its fourth successive year of partnership with the international polo community for The Royal Salute Maharaja of Jodhpur Golden Jubilee Cup. Set in the majestic foothills of the Royal Umaid Bhawan Palace, the high profile event was attended by a string of honorable guests from across the globe.
