Inspired by the nooks and crannies, and street art of India, designer Nida Mahmood is all set to present her Spring Summer 2013 collection titled “Sapna Cinema” with a twist. The collection is a manifestation of several colorful stories bringing alive the psychedelic dreams in Technicolor cinemascope. Surreal in parts and Freudian in context the collection features a lot of shirts and trousers with focus on pleats, along with saris and flowy tops.

The primary fabrics used in the collection include cottons, silks, twills and crepe. The color palette moves from the shades of tangerine, yellow to turquoise blue, indigo blue matched with creams and off whites with subtle hint of fuchsia and aubergine.

For Spring Summer 2013 designer Kavita Bhartia has come up with a collection titled “Folklore Saga” resonating with the memory of a Romanian holiday.
The collection will feature fluid garments with attractive drapes taking references from Eastern European countries.
On offer will be softly structured Romanian peasant blouses which legendary artiste Matisse also showcased in his paintings, along with a range of floor-length gowns – created using fabrics like chiffon, organza and silk Lycra. The embellishment comes in the form of embroidered geometrical motifs – based on geometric patterns used in weaving for decades. The color palette is comprised of creams, pastels, purple, turquoise and neon hues.

The North-East of India has its fashion moment this season as Ministry of Textiles and Fashion Design Council of India brings Atsu Sekhose, a designer from North-East on the ramp of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. His Spring Summer 2013 collection to be showcased at the event will see shades of the tribes of North-East. The constructions made of hand woven fabrics will be molded into a collection inspired by American sportswear.
Every look emphasizes the honed body through Naga fabrics like cotton and silk, woven by 30 underprivileged women from women’s weaving organization Vitole and Assamese Silk exclusively woven by Assamese weavers. The collection is comprised of shorts, parka jackets, trench jackets, trousers, shirts, dresses and evening gowns. The color palette ranges from shades of reds, cobalt blue, off white and beige to black.

Be it the madness of love or agony of separation, the Spring Summer 2013 edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week concocting of all such emotions couldn’t start on more poetic notes.

All set to bring the love saga of Taramati, a beautiful courtesan and Sultan of Golconda, Abdullah Qutub Shah, on the ramp, designer Anand Kabra will open the 20th edition of this Delhi-based fashion week.

The collection pieces together Taramati’s story partly from imagination and partly from physical attributes of the remnant of her legend – Taramati Baradari, an open pavilion with 12 doorways. The inlay pattern and borders of the tiles, fragmented mosaics, jali patterned windows and the arches of the doorways, form the base for colour blocking, print and embellishment. The collection uses fabrics like Malkha, cotton, lightweight silk, chiffon, georgette and crepe de chine. The color palette is comprised of lime and gold; royal blue; ivory and white; and kohl black and alta red.

The grandeur of the Grand Finale of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2013 will be vindicated by veteran Ritu Kumar who will narrate Art Deco Fables on the runway.
Recreating the magic and simplicity of Art Deco, the foremost design movement of 1930s, the collection will exemplify a mastery of graphics with its aesthetic message suited to both India and Europe. Split into two parts the show will begin with the Label Ritu Kumar brand and culminate in Ritu Kumar Couture.
The opening sequence will present Art Deco in a contemporary design language and context. The very graphic collection done using fabrics like silks, chiffons, crepe and twill features dropped waists, bold forms and delicate embroideries, all juxtaposed with modern techniques and shaping. The bold and elegant lines crafting eveningwear are done using treatments like serigraphy and lithography.
The second half of the collection draws inspiration from the Indian freedom movement and the colonial era and dips into the romance of 1930s.
Using rich design of Ritu Kumar Couture, the collection draws from the European influence on Indian royalty during pre-partition period. The use of rich tapestries, laces, brocades and embroideries, along with geometrical motifs come to life in luxurious colors. The collection ends with a regal collection of gold, black and jeweled ensembles reminiscent of the India of mid-20th century with its Baroque influences and distinctive style of Indo-European fashion.
