The sparkle of Swarovski Elements seldom goes unnoticed whether it’s New York or India. The glittering jewels magically render that glamour which every designer worth their salt covets.

And that very magic awed all and sundry at the recently concluded New York Fashion Week where a host of designers dabbled with Swarovski Elements. Celebrated designers like Altuzarra, Rodarte, Creatures of the Wind, Juan Carlos Obando and newcomer Wes Gordon channeled the Swarovski glitz in their runway designs.

Juan Carlos Obando’s collection showcased a curiosity of traditional coastal Spanish myths and legends using thousands of miniature Swarovski Elements to give key looks the aura and glowing dimension of the romantic and delicate texture of flower petals and the Faunas’ mystical aura.

In contrast, Creatures of the Wind referenced sixties modernism and integrated Swarovski Elements in a purely decorative manner to create geometric, linear structures and repeat patterned shapes while Rodarte used these jewels to create prismatic effects and shifts in color and light. The medieval inspired collection featured shiny and textured fabrics, fringed leather, beading and embroidery.

For his Spring Summer 2013 collection, Altuzarra was inspired by adornment and jewelry from different time periods and cultures – turned into reality using Swarovski. Ironically, emerging talent Wes Gordon morphed the dark heroine he created for his fall collection into the High Priestess for his latest collection featuring hand-drawn swan prints, delicate knits and embroideries embellished with Swarovski Elements.

The Spring Summer 2013 showcasing by Gucci brought to the fore the portraits of aristocratic women. The collection taking inspiration from Richard Avedon and Gian Paolo Barbieri’s historic photographs of few of the female icons came to evoke a strong allure through its clean and defined aesthetics.

Titled, “Aristocratic Purism” the collection featured shirt jackets, tunic effects with linear outerwear, high-neck blouses with soft pants, long tapered dresses, mini dresses with a cocoon shape. The color palette was comprised of electric blue, citrus yellow and red.  Organza mixed with embroidered tulle in a geometric net, fibers from Japanese paper and exotic silk lame jacquard like python gave eclectic look to the collection.

Orient prints, snake-style patterns, bell sleeves and tiered waves of necklines were some of the highlights of the collection.

The International high end footwear brand, Rosso Brunello, from the house of Da Milano, presents its Autumn Winter 2012 range representing sophisticated class of fashion with for both men and women.

Inspired by elegant feminine lifestyle, the collection features a plethora of peep toes, pumps, boots and stilettoes for women. The collection of footwear comes in variety of colors, patterns and styles, coming as a perfect add-on to any party wear or for any festive occasion.

On the other hand, men’s collection mixes a relaxed approach to modern glamour with some traditional sophistication offering the wearer style with warmth and comfort. The Autumn Winter 2012 for men includes moccasins, formal and casual footwear.

The price of Rosso Brunello women footwear starts from Rs.2499 while for men it starts from Rs.5499.

The Pakistan Fashion Design Council, the organization holding the reins of fashion in Pakistan, crossed the borders to launch its first standalone boutique, PFDC – The Boulevard, at South Extension in New Delhi.

The store which sprawls over 5500 square feet houses beautiful designs of few of the designers exemplifying the finest Pakistani talent. The renowned designers and brands like Libas, Karma, Sana Safinaz, Kamiar Rokni, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, Sonia Azhar, Asifa Nabeel, Fahad Hussayn, Nickie Nina, Iman Ahmed, Nida Azwer and Ayesha Hashwani amongst others adorn the racks of the store.

The interiors of the store are very contemporary with hints of Islamic forms and patterns. The concept is of a shop-in-shop wherein individual spaces have been created for each designer. Modern yet classic the store has been designed to highlight the beauty of every crafted piece.

On the occasion of the store launch, Mini Bindra, the brainchild behind bringing PFDC to India, said, “The intent was to have a very neutral and silent décor such that the product displayed speaks for itself. The idea was to create a space that can house any kind of clothing design: from minimalistic to the most opulent.”

What you see this season is a mix of variety in Alessandro Dell’Acqua, you see quite a Greek influenced print and then a sudden shift to mono color sports looks which is very clean in look.  A blend of gender split and diverse way to dress; printed top, sequenced buttons, tear skirt, narrow pants, padded jackets, again you see a mix of flat and high heel.

The collection was very clear for his existing clients. Electric blue, white, black, sky blue, fuchsia print on blue, feel of illusion and oversize.  Finally he appeared with a very narrow pant and blue denim shirt.

A very well-tailored sophisticated collection seems to be inspired from the 19th century bit conservative but very noble though. White long dress with full sleeve with ruffle round the neck, and cotton blouses with embroidered birds, sporty shorts with classic leather hand bag, lacy dress with embroidery on top, classic white jacket and trouser. Then you see a shift to black chiffon and golden sheer fabrics. A mix of modern and classic lingerie making it a muse for this generation.

Overall you see Francesco well learned approach to make perfect tailoring along with a class of attitude and aristocrat.

Despite hate being the most widely consumed emotion around the world, United Colors of Benetton abandons its controversial Unhate campaign featuring some much solicited love lip-locks, to address the issue of unemployment.

The rapidly growing youth unemployment, the change in work patterns and seemingly gloomy prospects made the Italy-based fashion brand hit the nail on the head and came up with its latest campaign called the “Unemployee of the Year”.

The campaign which is running till October 14 offers 100 people $ 6500 each to help fund their individual projects. The contest open to young people between ages of 18 to 30 all over the world will award the 100 projects receiving the most votes by visitors at Benetton’s Unhate site.

The initiative aims to spread a positive message of hope and celebrate creativity of young people comes with a video claiming, “For the commitment you demonstrated day in and day out. For standing tall in the face of adversity. For the perseverance. And for always going above the call of duty. For the extraordinary achievements in research, arts, and crafts. For delivering under pressure and showing leadership qualities. For making us see that it’s not all about how you make money or how you spend it. For telling those who told you "Go get a job." A job doesn’t define me. What I fight for does.”
