Pepe Jeans AW12 ad CampaignInternational denim brand Pepe Jeans London unveiled the second chapter of its “Have You Seen Pepe” ad campaign for Autumn Winter 2012.

The campaign draws on some of London’s most iconic Thames-side landmarks ranging from the dramatic backdrop of Tower Bridge to the magical silhouette of historic Westminster. Shot by celebrated British photographer Alasdair McLellan, the campaign is a kind of city-wide search for pal Pepe while reflecting on some of his finer and more questionable traits through a series of featured slogans.

Pepe’s band of devoted pals include model Edie Campbell alongside Claude Simonon, son of legendary bass guitarist from Gorillaz and The Clash, Paul Simonon. Also featuring in this Autumn Winter 2012 ad campaign are Eliza Cummings, Sophie Pumphrett, Tom Barker and Adam Loft- Schultz.

For third year in row, Shabana Azmi’s NGO, Mijwan Welfare Society, is hosting a fashion show, Mijjwan Sonnets in Fabric 2012 on September 3rd at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai, with designer Manish Malhotra presenting his designs.

The upcoming edition of the Mijwan fashion show will see Manish showcasing embroidery done entirely by the girls of Mijwan, which further has been translated into modern designs by the designer.

The show will witness 20 models and 30 celebrities like Amy Jackson, Arjun Kapoor, Chitrangada Singh,  Dia Mirza, Imran Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Kalki Koechlin, Karan Johar, Kunal Kapoor, Malaika Arora Khan, Neha Dhupia, Parineeti Chopra, Prateik Babbar, Rohit Roy, Rohit Shetty, Sameera Reddy, Shahana Goswami, Shazanne Padamsee, Yuvraj Singh and Diana Penty amongst others walking the ramp for the Mijwan Welfare Society.

About the show Manish says, “In the globalized world of fashion today it’s pointless to offer silhouettes to the West. But we have craftsmanship which they do not. This is our USP and that’s what we need to focus on. Mijwan to me is a microcosm of what India has to offer the world. We have a long history of the warp and weft of design aesthetics. It’s time we rediscover ourselves and go back to our roots.”

The hallowed fashion designer John Galliano, who is now known more for his racist tendencies rather than those magical eccentric designs he created for decades, is back in the spotlight again for wrong reasons.

The designer who was awarded one of France’s highest honors, Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 2010, is now considered undeserving of the title and thus stripped of it by French Government, owing to his much-hyped conviction for making anti-Semitic slurs last year.

The act of revoking by French President Francois Hollande seems quite inappropriate as the likes of Manuel Noriega; the infamous dictator of Panama still holds the same title.

Puma has opened its first sustainable store in Indiranagar, Bangalore. The store is locally developed, sourced out of India, and incorporates a number of revolutionary design elements to ensure that it meets the highest criteria for sustainability. The store is spread over 5000 sq. ft and incorporates the elements of sustainability through innovative design, mechanical and electrical installations, and material selections.

While the lower levels will function as a retail area, The closed and open surface layout of the building is designed for optimal daylight usage & heat insulation, and the recessed first & second floor volume generates a stack-effect for natural cooling. The highly insulated building shell, Earth Air Tunnel for pre-cooling of the fresh air supply and roof extractors optimize the stack-effect, thus allowing for AC free cooling. The store ensures customer comfort with no extra energy consumption. The store will retail a range of merchandise made from organic (pesticide-free) cotton as well as PUMA’s Wilderness Collection.

Bhabha’s Legacy under HammerThe versatile Homi Jahangir Bhabha – a scientist, administrator, painter, classical musician and an opera enthusiast left a legacy of artifacts which are being auctioned by Pundoles, an auction house in Mumbai this week.

The modern equivalent of Leonardo Da Vinci, as Nobel Laureate C.V Raman once called him, created many beautiful paintings during his lifetime, besides collecting many such pieces of art from across the globe, thus curating a priceless collection which adorned his home in Mumbai.

A part of this personal collection of him which now belongs to the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) is under hammer, after last year’s successful auction including some 900 objects, ranging from textiles to jewellery.
