World Luxury Handbag Index
A recent digital detailed analysis of the luxury handbag market revealed that British women are most handbag obsessed in the world.
The World Luxury Index Handbags came to conclusion by measuring the total volume of searches by country and looking at the number of handbag searches per 1000 users where UK showed the highest affinity for luxury handbags with 422 searches per 1000 internet users, followed by America and Italy.
The research revealed that Coach is the most searched luxury handbag brand globally, followed by Louis Vuitton and Chanel. It also unveiled that the Hermes Birkin is the most searched for iconic model across the markets. In the US, UK & France, crocodile is the most-searched for material, where the Americans prefer Orange, the British Tan and the French Black.
Louis Vuitton Dotty Collection
In its undying love to rope in the artists to come up with things distinct, Louis Vuitton does it again by collaborating with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama on a collection, ‘Infinitely Kusama’.
The 82-year old artist known for her dot patterns in paintings, sculptures, photographs and performance art, plays with her signature dots in this new collection, ranging from bags to dresses.
The collection offers wearable silk scarves, handbags, classic trench coats and dresses reflecting the obsessive, infinite and rhythmic artistic style of the artist.
Candy Couture
Fashion’s insatiable hunger for fancy delicacies brings to the fore a gown made of 50,000 gummy bears.
Inspired by a dress from Alexander McQueen’s Spring Summer 2008 collection, the candy gown has featured in a debut issue of a newly launched international magazine.
Weighing 220lbs the gown is created by twisting steel wires into a shape of a dress and covering it with a sheet of vinyl. The gummy bears are then glued on in a colorful rainbow pattern.
Valentino up for Sale
The Italian luxury label, Valentino, known for its red ball gowns, is set to be sold to a sovereign wealth fund for $721 million.
The brand which is currently owned by Premira, a European private equity fund, is being sold for second time. Previously, it was acquired by its current owner in 2007 but the problems started to surface after designer Valentino Garavani retired in 2008.
Later, the designers Maria GraziaChiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli were brought to strengthen the brand. In 2011, Valentino had sales of 322.4 million pounds upto 20% from the previous year.
Valentino Fall 2012 Couture
The darkest luxury of fall 2012 couture comes from the house of Valentino which presented a collection inspired by painter Gustave Moreau – a lover of dark color who never painted with black.
So it was myriad of hues of blue which ruled this sensual decadent collection using materials like crepe de chine, chiffon, lace and cashmere. The solid colored dresses featured brocade, intricate beadwork, appliques and floral patterns. The long sleeves and play of sheer with solid defined this structured yet fluid collection which apart from blue had a dash of red and yellow.
