Fashion weeks come and go, leaving one spoilt for choices. With thousands of scintillating designs every season, fascinating in a way or other, it’s bewildering to stop by your best. It’s like skimming off the cream itself. Here only trends come for the rescue. Though you might be like, ‘I don’t follow trends’ but the collective nod of geniuses call for selective adherence.

The latest edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week culminated on modish notes, throwing light on the Spring Summer 2012 shelves of the high streets. With sparkling ensembles galore, the trend story celebrates flirtatious, frivolous and feisty summers pandering by the fluctuating fashionable obsessions. Here is to trendy Spring Summer 2012.

Sheer Play: The fabric remained the hot favourite one among the designers for its unparalleled sexiness and elegance while refraining from slutiness. From organza to tulle in various blends, sheer teamed up with fabrics like chiffon, lace, silk, georgette and cotton oozing oodles of femininity. The translucent fabric appearing on the sleeves at one time and legs and waists at the other created the perfect sheer play. Designers like Rahul Mishra, Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna and Wendell Rodricks amongst others used sheer with subtlety. The fabric also popped up in the form of flowy jackets and skirts.

Ombre/Ikat Print/Metal: Amidst the floral carnival with almost half of the designers playing with floral prints, ombre effect emerged as the distinguishing factor. Being a hot favourite trend around the world, ombre could be seen in the collections of Urvashi Kaur, Nachiket Barve and Sulakshana Monga in the recently concluded fashion week in India. On the other hand, traditional Indian ikat print was embraced by the designers like Rajesh Pratap Singh, Charu Parashar, Nida Mahmood, Anita Dongre and Nandita Basu. Subtly paired with bright hues, the print created some sartorial wonders.

Metallic shimmer in the form of fabrics, as in Rohit Gandhi & Rahul khanna and Sulakshana Monga’s collections, or in form of metal studs and fringes on Malini Ramani’s kaftans and maxi skirts, remained one consistent feature on the ramp. Shantanu Goenka’s zari work and gold embellishments on the dresses glittered bright.

Color Splash/Color Pop-up: The upcoming season is all about rainbow hues. The bright shades render that summery feel. Color blocking, multi-hued layering, rainbow prints and loads of wilderness, all account for the trend. Designers like Charu Parashar, Nida Mahmood and Preeti S Kapoor are few designers among others who had abundant colors in their collection.

On the other hand, a subtle play with colors ala Wendell Rodricks and Rahul Reddy turns out to be a perfect trend recipe this Spring Summer. The flash of bright colors from a corner or the other, in the form of piping, insert, belt or shoes stands for elegance and loads of fashion.

Organic Obsession: The WIFW SS 12 saw designers like Wendell Rodricks, James Ferreira and Samant Chauhan paid their tribute to nature by indulging in ethical fashion. Wendell’s malkha cotton, Samant’s eco-friendly Bhagalpur silk and James Ferreira’s hand woven khadi ignited the trend of ethically alluring fashion.

Tail Dress/Wrap Dress/ Peplum: The trends vouch for flirtatiousness with shirt dresses and tail dresses ala Rajesh Pratap Singh, Rahul Reddy, Aneeth Arora and Pallavi Mohan. The effortlessness they exude is perfect for laid back summers. Further, wrapped and draped ones like Bhanuni by Jyoti Sharma, Rahul Mishra and Nachiket Barve render elegance to the look, with collars, one-shoulders and cowls. Apart from these dresses, palazzo pants, peplums, maxi skirts and jumpsuits had ubiquitous influence throughout the week.
