Akaaro by Gaurav Jai Gupta delved into Grecian concept of divine proportion which is defined as the ratio of 1:1.6 for his collection for WIFW A/W 2011.

The collection visually explores the idea in the form of color, scale and mood. Fabrics are all hand-woven and are designed with wool, silk, cotton, stainless steel for specific silhouette using ancient Indian weaving style of Tangail on a traditional handloom with paper cards. All the dyeing has been done in open vessels by hand. With dual reference of Golden ratio in nature and architecture explorations have been in form of pleating, gathering, paneling and scale.

Dolly J presents ‘Vintage – Gold’, a collection about celebrating the spirit of Indian-nes in the contemporary woman for WIFW A/W 2011.

Expressing one’s individuality over a signature palette of rich & contrasting colors, bold jaali & asymmetrical cuts and a unique tapestry of velvet, net, chiffon, hand-wovens and prints that overlay each other in memorable ways dictate the collection. It varies from flirty dresses to antique gold embroidered trousers. From sharara sarees and sharara jump-suits to amazingly skirt petticoat-like sarees, Dolly J has broken fresh ground by painstakingly hand-crafting stain glass jewellery.

For Autumn Winter 2011 edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, designer Charu Parashar presents ‘The Modernist’, a collection set in 18th century backdrop of rich prints infused in a dark background giving it a richer more harmonious look.

It originates from Persian ceramic ware based on Arabesque which has a lot of floral ornamentation like Marigold, Tulip and many more which is easily recognizable and are set in rustic Indian Jewel-Toned Palette of Deep Green, Orange and Indian pink. Charu takes her inspiration from 60s to provide a cleaner, glossier look.

Strong elongated outerwear pieces like trench jackets, faux-fur hooded Jackets and short soft structured dresses are key to this look. Other key pieces include the Indian salwar Pants and T-shaped tunic dresses. Silhouettes are simple with a modern aesthetic, balancing simple A- line and ovoid shaping.

Persian influenced prints on silk chiffon, velvet and supple satins with details and trims like tone on tone sequence, black crystal embellishment with Jaali embroidery and faux fur trims have been extensively used.

Woolen mufflers , shiny gold and silver bangles, gold meshed ear rings , rustic gold chained necklaces set in semi-precious stones, high heeled boots and glossy belts accessorize the collection.

For Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2011, designer Urvashi Kaur is showcasing ‘Prappati’, a collection peeping into profound understanding of self-discovery and realization.

A manifestation of subtle impermanence, the collection is a profound understanding of how the attachment to the true self and detachment from the experience of diversity is the key to self realization. Urvashi depicts this meditative journey through the interplay of colours, both complimentary and contrasting, only to find harmony between the duality in life.

Besides her philosophical take on her range and solecism, Urvashi would also be showcasing her creativity and artistic instincts with a huge installation at MSA 2 describing the re appropriation of fabric that has already had one life for one purpose and reworking, re assigning or reinventing it to give it a new life serving a different purpose or aesthetic.

For WIFW A/W 2011, designer Rohit Mittal presents a collection inspired by cultures and traditions of India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Focusing on his theme, Rohit creates a mix of interesting techniques and textures.

Cutwork, patchwork, quilting, fringes, tassels, beadwork are a few of techniques used in jackets, kaftans, dresses, tunics and tops. Embroidery has been used extensively to decorate the silhouettes. Fabrics vary from crepes, georgettes, chiffons, velvets and silks. Whereas, colour palette varies from neutrals like black, coffee and beige to deep jewel tones of purple, blue and green. There is a lot of use of prints on silk georgettes.
