For WIFW A/W 2011, designer Anupama Dayal has a collection titled, ‘Shalimar’, taking its inspiration from the fabled gardens in the paradise land of Kashmir to be displayed.

Mughal flower being the focus of the collection leads to light hearted collection inspired of pop art.  Colors like Amethyst,  phirozi, Sand,  red sandstone,  acid pink & orange,  canary yellow,  shrek green, black render life to the collection.

Fabrics have been chosen keeping in mind the word, ‘sumptuous’. Pashminas, sheep wool blends, twill silk, tafetta, stretch cottons weave the collection.

Sanchita Ajjampur presents constellation of clustered dots uniting contradictory elements of camouflage and mutation, enriched by tactile glittery highlights for Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2011.

Fabrics like fine cotton jersey with anthropomorphic decorative motifs from rococo period adorning the ordered pattern of the blooms and buds, translated to whimsical shapes through wood cut prints and vegetable dyes, with heirloom silk edging form one range of the collection.

Another story in hand printed jersey with a collage of morphed animal motifs and naïve foliage create mysterious identities on sheer silk panels. Fabrics like ultra fine chiffon render subtle reliefs of palettes embracing painterly blooms in age old printing techniques to create sumptuous fluid dresses.

The hand printed silk with asymmetrical drapes pared down to linear shapes, tulip and pencil, skirts and pants give diversity to the collection. Soft Boxy silhouettes in cotton fleece, versatile, essential underpinnings in fine jersey and artisanal luxury in trims and embellishments are the other elements of collection.

Color palette is comprised of hand dyed spicy hues of cayenne peppercorn, mustard, cardamom, tarragon and dill in saturated, opulent nuances. Whereas avant garde jewelry reconfigured from the intricate artistry of the Mughal Empire melds traditional crafts and modern sensibilities. Veritable images of animal headed chimeras and winged animal characters drift fleetingly on glazed hides. Ballet shoes and bags with supple, engineered hides handcrafted with gathered cultural references and reworked old traditions accessorize the range.

The Indian fashion maestro, Manish Arora who also happens to be the Creative Director at Paco Rebane unveils a preview of his Autumn Winter 2011 collection, named ‘Indian’ for WIFW A/W 2011.

Never seen before embroideries coupled with classic silhouettes in enchanting colors takes one on a magical journey with garments that will transform one  into an era of elegance and glamour. The core of this collection is dominated by embroideries that are an amalgamation of the contemporary and traditional artwork inspired by Manish’s trademark style.

These include vibrant beading techniques mixed with detailed sequence work, introduction of the intricate hand worked “Ek-taar” embroidery, captivating silk velvet appliqué work along with inspirations from Turkish motifs to form exquisite patterns. The embroideries are perfectly complimented by the colors this season that range from deep purples and midnight blues to rustic beiges and regal reds.

The silhouettes are specially chosen for the festive winter season with full sleeves kurta churidaars, cocktail sarees, elaborate appliqué work lehengas, feminine anarkalis, classic band galas and tunics to name a few. The choice of fabric ranges from luxurious Silks, Crepes, and raw silks to complimentary georgettes and chiffons.

Modeling happened by chance for this half-German and half-Indian beauty. Spotted by chance and good luck of the industry, Jennifer Sodhi has been in the glamour world for the past eight years. Here we try to find out more about this enigmatic woman.

Tell us something about your early life?
I grew up in Berlin, Germany, as a single child and very protected.

Tells us briefly about your family and schooling?
My father is Punjabi and my mother German, but they didn’t raise me to be religious.

School education was always very important. I went to a humanistic school where I’ve learned Latin and ancient Greek.

What is your parent’s viewpoint on you choosing modeling as a career?
They don’t like it. The guidelines of my education are very traditional: use your brain, not your physique.

When and what was your first modeling assignment?
I was twenty and had just finished school and was working in a call center, where I bumped into a photographer’s assistant. I got a job offer for a political campaign, that’s how everything started.

What all assignments have you been a part of?
In eight years of modeling I have done a lot of commercial work, so it is even hard to remember. I have been working in Barcelona, Madrid, Berlin, Milan, Athens, Paris and New York. I have worked for Mango jeans, Converse, Diesel, Desigual, Levis, Maybelline and L’Oreal, just to name a few. Since I came to Mumbai I have been shooting for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Femina, GQ and done a few campaigns.

How important do you think is education for a model?
I think education is indispensible for anyone.

What’s your opinion of the Modeling Industry? Are substance abuse/suicides etc as predominant as depicted by the media?
I think that the correlation between the model industry and drug abuse is illusionary and made up artificially. Drug abuse can be found everywhere and nowhere. In my personal experience no case of suicide has ever happened, so I can’t say anything according to that.

How has the industry evolved in all these years?
I think it has changed a lot to what it used to be. Back in the days modeling was very powerful and glamorous. Now it is something more common and the competition is so high that most of the models have to struggle hard in order to remain.

Tell us about your fitness regime…
I love to do Yoga in the mornings and if I don’t find enough time to do it I feel unbalanced.

Turning point of life?
Turning point in life was when I finished my studies in psychology and started to travel through modeling. Somehow I stepped out of my books and organized lifestyle to challenge myself and accumulate real life experiences.

Beauty regime?
To get enough rest and healthy food is essential. Also it is important to be surrounded by people with a caring attitude.

What did you aspire to become as kid?
I was one of those kids who had no vision whatsoever in what to become. But since the age of twelve my first ambition was to become a musician, a famous one.
