Pondicherry’s prime location, Mission Street is now a home to its native accessory brand, Ayesha, alongside an unwinding space, PY Café, a perfect spot for gathering and relaxing after an exhausting day. The café is based on the concept of “spread love, be creative and eat well” in vintage pastels.

The café greets you with a signboard that reads “welcome to our loud crazy fun place” and motivational, mood lighting quotes painted on wooden boards throughout the space. It also has a wall full of old broken clocks that is inspired from Pondicherry tag line “Give time a break”. The menu is a mixture of cuisines, for example, balsamic dressing does not come as a drizzle but is served as tiny little pearls; the cold coffee is carbonated and the burgers are charcoal black.

PY café in Pondicherry has also initiated a campaign on #spreadlove to spread more good vibes around. The customers are given notepads to write letters to their loved ones and the staff posts the same. Lately, Nikhil Thampi collaborated with Absolut to kick off their Absolut Art Bar at Famous Studio, Mumbai. The collaboration stems from a simple idea of co-existing that portrays sex being powerful, and the fact that future is equal, and there is harmony in balance. With a focus on gender equality, the designer showcased his views towards gender stereotypes through his unique installation for Art Bar..

The collaboration aimed to usher issues pertaining to gender bias that deprive women of equal voice and opportunities. On several occasions, Nikhil Thampi through the medium of his collection, has put forward a distinctive take on women’s dressing. Aligning this with the global progress on addressing the issue of gender bias, Thampi’s installation at Art Bar extricated the negative sentiment the issue holds and embody the spirit of equality loud and clear.

Commenting on the collaboration Nikhil Thampi said, “Once considered a men’s staple, structured pantsuits for women have played a pivotal role in creating my signature style. Power blazers and androgynous tailoring are unshackling fashion from gender stereotypes and this take on power dressing with the belief that women can dominate in any field. Absolut also stands by female empowerment and believes that all genders should be treated equally, and in our collaboration at the Art Bar in Mumbai, we made sure that everything was in Absolut Balance.”

The music for the evening was curated by both male and female DJ’s, namely DJ SA and DJ Nina & Malika, thereby reiterating gender equality. To further celebrate the wave of equality there was a mix of male and female bartenders.
