When I lived in Bangalore, I lived right in the heart of the city – exactly where the zip code begins – “001”. I loved the centrality and conveniences, as well as seeing the preservation of historic bungalows peppered throughout the changing neighborhood.

In “56001”, at the cross of Lavelle and Vittal Mallya Roads, one can go in any direction for some of the best shopping in Bangalore – from the international labels housed at UB City, to the glamorous adornments found at Jamila and Seema Malhotra’s Shimmer, to Evolutionize, Ritu Kumar, Ffolio and everything in between.

The listings above are visible from the main roads and easy to find.
What I want to share – three, slightly hidden gems – each worth stepping off of Lavelle and Vittal Mallya to discover.

Tasveer
This gallery is devoted to contemporary fine art photography, often showcasing images of India’s life and landscape. Tasveer is one of the more sophisticated galleries in Bangalore and is also established in Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.
Two years ago, I attended Tasveer’s opening for the exhibit Pilgrimage by British photographer Tim Hall.  In fact, I kept the catalogue and glanced through it recently after receiving notice about his current exhibit at Tasveer, Escape: Desert Coast Mountain. Whereas Pilgrimage captured the beauty of India’s people engaged in daily life, Escape captures raw landscape. The exhibit runs through June 26th.

These images look back to a romantic world and to an uncertain future, where the force of nature is both powerful and beautiful, to be admired and respected. – Tim Hall

Cinnamon and Pause
While on the subject of escape, I used to enjoy doing just that while visiting two wonderful boutiques right around the corner from Tasveer – Cinnamon for gifts, accessories, clothing and home décor, and Pause for unique home furnishings.
