Gucci announces a further evolution with its Souvenir collection, comprised of a selection of leather goods (handbags, luggage and small leather goods) and silks which are given different treatments for different regions.

1

Luxurious embroidered patches are applied to the Souvenir items in different combinations depending on where the pieces are on sale in the world.

The customisation takes the form of embroidered patches created from multi-coloured thread. The iconography is typical of the House and is made up of a combination of flowers, animals and script depending on where they are on sale geographically.

2

For example, in America the collection features roses and the text ‘Blind for Love’, while in Europe it has a bee and flowers; meanwhile China has the sacred heart and roses, and Australia the anchor, heart and roses., while Christmas items display the poisoned heart (heart with a coral snake) and flowers.

For this Holiday season, Bottega Veneta presents “Holiday Harmonies”, a unique music project evocative of the festive melodies reinterpreted through a variety of product’s sounds captured at the house’s Atelier in the Veneto region of Italy.

1

“Holiday Harmonies” will reveal the distinctive sound produced by each single Bottega Veneta item as well as a musical arrangement purposely created featuring an unexpected symphony including these elements played in unison.

2

In this project, the traditional artisanal mastery is finely combined with the eclectic innovation that defines the underlying philosophy and qualities of the brand: outstanding craftsmanship, timeless yet innovative design, contemporary functionality and the highest quality materials.

With its architectural design, metallic charms spelling out the name Dior, and carnage motif inspired by the napoleon iii chairs on which Christian Dior seated the guests at his shows, the lady Dior bag, created in 1995, is an expression of the contemporary refinement of the house, and lends itself to a wealth of interpretations and artistic appropriations.

1

For the opening of the house of Dior in London, this past June, and for Dior lady art project, the house invited the London-based contemporary artist Marc Quinn to deliver his vision of the iconic bag and small leather accessories in a limited edition available exclusively in the boutique.

2

The story continues with six new British and American artists who unveil their creations in the Miami boutique, in a Los Angeles pop-up store, then in Korea, in London, in China, in Dubai and in Paris. In undertaking this collaboration, the house has pushed the limits of its savoir-faire in order to respond to the artists’ requirements. The project gives carte blanche to artists who have transposed their own creative universes into the Dior leatherworking language.

The last stroke of mascara and her eyes glow as she waits for her love…

‘Shringara’ signifies an alluring atmosphere, revelled in love. The word denotes love and beauty, capturing the poignant emotion in ethereal tales. It is a story of a modern woman, adorning herself as she waits for her love to arrive.

Rocky S, beautifully captures the musings of a woman and her evocative thoughts, as she journeys through the dark forests- her love is one of immense trepidation.

1

The Rocky Star label by Rocky S celebrates love, manifested in decorative prints featuring handcrafted textures and opulent embroideries. The colour palette enhances the feeling of joy and fear in shades of soft grey, mysterious forest greens and light pastels. Voluminous dramatic silhouettes and flattering cuts join together in a coalition of beauty and drama. Soft, fluid georgettes and chiffons highlight the romanticism in the collection.

Just when Anita Dongre, fashion designer and a vegan, has won a special place in the heart of many through her efforts to help animals –  at a special function held at The Art Hub in Worli on Saturday night, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India honoured her with a Compassionate Designer Award for her refusal to use cashmere and leather in her designs as well as her promotion of vegan eating and animal-protection issues via social media and her company’s website.

1

“Dongre’s heart is as big as her talent”, says PETA India Associate Director of Celebrity and Public Relations Sachin Bangera. “We thank her for standing up for animals through her work and other actions.”

Comes the news of ace designer Anupama Dayal and JD Institute of Fashion Technology’s Executive Director RC Dalal too bagged an award at a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India event in Delhi. Anupama was presented with a Compassionate Designer Award for refusing to use leather in her designs and her work to promote the adoption of dogs from animal shelters and the streets and RC Dalal was presented with a Hero to Animals Award for his work in raising awareness about vegan fashion to design students.

Anupama

“Anupama Dayal and RC Dalal both show that compassion is always in fashion,” says PETA India’s Associate Manager of Celebrity & Media Projects. “PETA is honoured to have such these leaders from the world of fashion on the animals’ team.”

Cows, buffalo and other animals used for leather in India are often crammed onto vehicles so tightly that their bones break. Those who survive have their throats cut in full view of other animals, and many of them are dismembered and skinned while they’re still conscious. Exotic skins come from animals like snakes, lizards and crocodiles. Hunters invade snakes’ homes, often nail the animals to trees and skin them alive before tossing them in a pile to die. The snakes can suffer for days before succumbing to shock or dehydration. Lizards are usually clubbed on the head or their spines are severed with chisels as soon as they reach “marketable” size.

The concept of Del Bistro, is inspired by the style and culinary artistry of European gastronomy and spirit.

Del along with Chef Anuj Wadhwa brings nouveau menu that changes at every meal time, brings along culinary philosophy to use locally grown organic ingredients, fresh meats and, of course, the freshest seafood for all dishes on the menu.

Located at the Roseate House New Delhi, DEL reflects a grand sense of space offering an opulent view of the alfresco with tranquil water bodies and lush greens. The 130 plus cover bistro exudes modern elegance with a posh private dining room offering the perfect ambience to regale.

As my early dinner unfolds at Del, the new addition to the Roseate family fine-dining empire, it’s hard to know whether you’ve entered restaurant nirvana or an opulent five-star restaurant.

First there is the watermelon medallion, which comes with goat cheese spread on top offering, as you put this in your mouth, you can admire an illustration called Somnium Genero – You Are In Flight (Tu In Fugam – A, Acrylic on canvas), by Thukral & Tagra, stationed at the restaurant.

You can peruse the menu, stuffed with compressed Salad’ from Barcelona, aero code BCN, the ‘Confit Duck Leg’, from Orly Paris, aero code ORY and ‘Quinoa Biryani’ from Delhi, aero code DEL. Other signature surprises include ‘Gosht Aur Gucchi Pulao’ from Bangalore – BLR a fare consisting of slow cooked lamb shanks from New Zealand served with Kashmiri gucchi pulao, ‘Ying Yang’ from Tokushima, Japan with aero code TKS that includes delicious paprika prawns, asparagus shavings, summer squash purée, gomadare dressing and Kombu chips and ‘Black Linguine Vongole’ from Rome, Italy aero code ROM that offers homemade linguine served with shrimps, squid rings, mussels and gremolata.

And instead of the piano tunes that are piped into the restaurant, you can enjoy an interactive experience with adept master chefs carefully handcrafting their favorite repast at DEL’s live oriental and European kitchens sipping Chinese tea.

The great chef made his reputation peddling the opposite kind of dining experience, after all. But at Del Bistro they seem to have something else in mind, a splashy combination of canny marketing and aggressive haute-cuisine extravagance.

With its valet parking and opulent seating, the restaurant seems to have been designed, like a giant gill net. Food plays a part in this calculation, but in the end, Del Bistro isn’t really about food. It’s about spectacle and entertainment.
